On April 12, the China Judgment Documents Network disclosed a case in which Huawei employees used bugs in the company's system to access confidential data in excess of their authority. In December 2010, after Yi was transferred from Huawei's Cable Material Control Department, he did not clean up the query authority of the ERP account cable coded material price according to Huawei's requirements, and by the end of 2017, Yi had repeatedly obtained the price information of cable materials in the ERP system by ultra vires inquiry and borrowing a colleague's account login. Yi informed Shenzhen Jinxinnuo High-tech Co., Ltd. (a supplier of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.) by texting, calling, and emailing the illegally obtained price data, thereby helping Jinxinnuo to improve the winning rate of Huawei's bidding project.

In addition, Yi repeatedly sent the purchase price of 1183 cable coded materials from Huawei's multiple suppliers (918 in total excluding duplicate parts) to Jinxinnuo through the company's mailbox. Between 2012 and June 30, 2017, he received a total of RMB7,000 in shopping cards and 5 pairs of basketball shoes (valued at RMB16,437.6) from Jin Cigna.

After the incident, Huawei issued a letter of understanding, indicating that it would forgive Yi's behavior of infringing on Huawei. The court ruled in the first instance that Yi was guilty of illegally obtaining computer information system data and sentenced to one year's imprisonment and fined 20,000 yuan; and to recover a total of 23,437.6 yuan of illegal gains from Yi, confiscated them according to law, and handed them over to the state treasury.
