The Funny Drum is a branch of the Big Drum that wins with witty humor, which is funny but not vulgar. The founder is Zhang Yunfang, a ticket friend of Jingyun Daguqi, who has four apprentices - Yam Egg Fu Shaofang, Donggua Ye Delin, Big Eggplant Du Yuheng, and Old Wu gua Cui Ziming, these four are also known as the "Vegetable Garden Sect", which was once famous. Beijing Qu Art Troupe Mo Qi and Zhang Wenshun are the descendants of Ye Delin of The Winter Melon.
Zhang Yunfang (1877-1950) lived in the Sanqi Camp in Beijing, and his ancestors worked as errands in the Imperial Granary for generations, loved to sing octagonal drums, and participated in the "Chaoyang An Sheng Guo Guo Relic Octagon Drum Box Office". Based on the "Timid Drum", he created a series of comical and humorous singing voices, named "Improved Drum", also known as "Funny Drum".
Zhang Yunfang is good at writing drum lyrics, and the ones that have been handed down include "Ugly Girl Out of the Cabinet", "Zhang Sheng Jumping the Wall", "Ugly Girl Dreaming", "Persuading Five Fans", "Pushing Cards Nine", "Shooting White-Faced Child Sellers", "Jiang Gan Stealing Books", "Monopolizing Hua Kui" and so on. His words are playful, such as in "Jiang Gan's Book Stealing", "one trip, two trips, two trips, back and forth, back and forth, straight to busy..." "The more he talks, the smaller the voice, twittering, beeping, shouting, ghostly, sneaky, hidden, hidden, trance, mournful, vague, vague, vast ..." Zhang Yunfang's opening remarks when performing are mostly self-deprecating poems, or hanging on to grab baggage, and can be written and performed on the spot, it is said that on the first day of the opening of the Dong'an Market in Beijing in 1903, he sang a paragraph of "Hai Sanjie Visiting Dong'an Market" on the spot. , the stalls in this market, eating and drinking to make use of the singing over and over again.

Among Zhang Yunfang's four disciples, the highest achievement was the yam egg Fu Shaofang. Fu Shaofang, whose real name is Fudeshan, is a Manchurian, was a postman in his early years, loved drum music, learned to sing octagonal drums, Lianzhu fast books, and later learned funny drums. In 1924, he took Baiyun Peng's class to Jinan to sing a funny drum, which was a blockbuster. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War in 1938, Fu Shaofang and his adopted daughter Fu Shuyuan (Fu Guihua) performed at the Shengping Bookstore in Chongqing. At that time, Lao She, Tian Han and Ouyang Yuqian often patronized the bookstore. Fu Shaofang participated in the "All-China Theater Industry Anti-Enemy Association", sang the new repertoire of anti-Japanese salvation written by Lao She, and performed double reeds with Lao She. It is said that in Lao She's "Fang Pearl", the prototype of Fang Pearl's father", "Broken Kite", is Fu Shaofang. Later, he established the Beiping Bookstore in Shanghai and worked as a manager at the Nanjing World Bookstore.
Fu Shaofang came to Tianjin in August 1949 to perform in Daguanyuan, when it was the bottom of Bai Yunpeng, and the cross-talk of Ma Sanli and Zhang Qingsen on the same stage, Wang Peichen's iron drum, Wu Yanfang's pendant, Shi Liancheng's single string, Liu Lianyu's plum blossom drum, and Jin Yeqin's driving skills. During this time, he also performed dramas "A Bowl of Rice" and "Stormy Night" at the Nanshi Xinsheng Theater. In the 1950s, Fu Shaofang participated in the condolence group to the DPRK, Cheng Shutang played him a string accompaniment, Mr. Cheng died in Korea, and Fu Shaofang also died of illness shortly after returning to China.
Fu Shaofang's performance was strange and he wrote and acted in many new programs, such as "Ma Zhanshan's Fraudulent Surrender", "New Life Movement", "The Painful History of Northeast China", "Sun Premier's London Disaster", "New Chinese Doctor", "The Long March of the Red Army", "Labor Model Liu Qiying", "Consistently Harming Humanity", "Celebrating Liberation", showing a strong creative talent.

Another of Zhang Yunfang's apprentices, Old Wugua Cui Ziming, was also very powerful, he was a native of Shunyi, Beijing, apprenticed in the jade industry, and loved to tune small songs when singing. In the early 20s, Cui Ziming went to Tianjin to perform, with "Liu Erjie Tethered Doll" a hit, this section also has cross-talk, but the baggage of funny drums is not much at all. The old melon first played the big drum sleeve, the drum changed with the strings, the rhythm accelerated, the drum board strings were mixed into one, the drum heart, the drum gang, the blow of the drum set hit the melon on his head, he himself had a serious face, and the audience laughed. Sing to the end "Huhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Ahhh", the big drum became a small tune of the time, and the audience sang from the beginning to the end.
Cui Ziming'an is straight, but he likes to be alone in the jianghu, he doesn't know that he will meet others when he has something, and others don't participate in things, so some artists think he is slamming the door. He often performed in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Han, and in the 1930s, he recorded records such as "Lü Mengzheng Teaching", "Great Persuasion to the People", "Persuasion Under the Lamp", "Jiang Gan's Theft of Books" and so on. Later, some people commented that the drum of the old Wugua Cui Ziming can be a school of its own - Cui Pai.
The repertoire that Ye Delin is good at include "Meng Zheng Teaching", "Jiang Gan Stealing Books", "Blue Bridge Society", "Liu Erjie Tethered Doll" and so on. In 1939, Liu Baoquan, the king of the drum industry, returned to Beijing from Tianjin and performed for three consecutive days in the Xianyukou Neihua Paradise outside the qianmen. On the first day of the performance, Ye Delin sang "Jiang Gan's Book" on the mat, and after the strings beat the drum, his funny and funny expressions, eyes, and actions first made a full house. Being able to give Liu Bao a full cushion also represents a kind of strength. Ye Delin later joined the Beijing Quyi Troupe. The Beijing qu artist Mo Qi and the elder Zhang Wenshun of the Deyun Society are both descendants of Ye Delin.
Zhang Yunfang's fourth disciple, Du Yuheng, the great eggplant, whose original name was Du Kun, was a native of Changping, Beijing, and he left little information. There is also a small Beigua Yu Chunming, who is also a disciple of Zhang Yunfang.
