On April 10, the Japan Table Tennis Asian Games Singles Trials have been completed. Makoto Yoshimura narrowly defeated Hayabusa Tokami 4-3 to win the men's singles championship in the selection tournament and qualify for the Asian Games men's singles.

The method of generating men's singles qualifications at the Japan Table Tennis Asian Games, like women's table tennis, is also divided into two parts. The first part is the men's singles round of 32, where the winner wins a men's singles qualification. Zhang Benzhihe won the men's singles championship in the singles round of 32, taking the lead in qualifying for the Asian Games of men's singles.

The second part is the Asian Games Singles Selection Tournament, in which eight players are divided into two groups. Originally, Group A had Mizuki Kawakawa, Shō Tsone, Hayabusa Tokami, and Yoshiyama, while Group B had Sōya Yokoya, Daimon Yuki, Makoto Yoshimura, and Daisei Matsushita. Yoshiyama entered the tournament by making up for Shinosuke Daiden (Shinozo Daiden retired). As for why many players withdrew from the competition, Ri Ping-Pong did not say why. Nagasaki Miyu of women's table tennis also withdrew from the competition, and was replaced by Yurika Minami.

Makoto Yoshimura then won two more sets 11-7, 11-4 to win 3-1 against Tojo Hayabusa.
