Why do people always feel that "their eyes can't be opened"? It has nothing to do with small eyes!

Today is a good day because...

The first article of hardcore plastic surgery science is coming!

(Source: Network)

So let's officially start?

Let's talk about a small case before science starts!

The 18-year-old woman has grown up with one eye and one eye small, and the small one always feels like she can't open it.

(Source: References[1])

Later, when she went to the hospital for examination, the doctor told her that the reason why her eyes were like this was not a small eye, but a disease - drooping eyelids.

Many stars of this disease also have it, but the author himself is relatively timid, here is not a case, the message area welcomes everyone to discuss ~

Small eyes and droopy eyelids are not the same.

Ptosis refers to the fact that when a person is standing with his eyes open and looking straight ahead without raising his eyebrows, the edges of the upper eyelids are lower than normal, covering too much of the black eyeball.

The following figure is an example of the degree of lightness [2].

It is common to occur unilaterally, but may also occur bilaterally.

Moderate to severe ptosis can partially or completely cover the patient's pupil, thus affecting visual function and affecting the development of vision in children, resulting in amblyopia.

At the same time, in order to get rid of the occlusion of vision by the upper eyelid, patients often use back tilting their heads or raising their eyebrows to compensate, resulting in deepening of frontal lines and even spinal deformities [3].

Looking back at the simple small eyes, it will not affect the development of vision, will not block the field of vision, so it will not cause the symptoms mentioned above.

Let's start with the structure of our eyes, which have a lot of muscles around the eye that control the opening, closing, and movement of the eyes.

When the eyes are closed, it is the "orbicularis oculi muscles" that are working hard, closing the eyelids like a trouser belt, and the upper eyelid muscles are not strong.

But if you want to open your eyes, you need to "lift the eyelid muscles" and pull up the upper eyelids like a curtain.

If there is a problem with the muscle "lifting the eyelid muscle", when the eyelids cannot be pulled, the eyes can only be half squinted.

As for the cause of the problem with the upper eyelid muscle, it may be caused by congenital muscle hypoplasia or the neurodevelopmental insufficiency that innervates it, or it may be caused by acquired trauma, lesions, and aging [4].

Of course, there is another situation that will also make the eyelid muscles not move the eyelids, that is, the eyelids are too heavy. As for why it is heavy, it may be eyelid lesions, surgical scars, upper eyelid tumors and other reasons.

In general, ptosis requires surgery.

In particular, congenital, severe ptosis may affect your child's vision development, so surgery is generally recommended as soon as possible.

There are many specific surgical methods, for mild ptosis, generally using lifting bleral folding, moderate ptosis, and generally using lifting bleral shortening [5].

It can be simply understood that shortening the upper eyelid muscles so that the eyelids can be pulled apart as much as possible, which is also the most commonly used surgical method.

Of course, there are some other surgical methods, because the terminology is too complicated, and doctors are more concerned about things, I will not introduce them here.

In short, if you find that you have a corresponding problem, you can go to the hospital for examination, and the doctor will tailor the most suitable surgical plan.

Regarding the content of this paragraph, you do not have to be too anxious and worried, because with the advancement of technology, the incidence of related postoperative complications is already very low, and most of them have corresponding treatment methods.

But since it is to give everyone science, I hope that everyone can understand this operation more comprehensively, so the risk is also to be informed, interested friends look at the following table on the broad!

Well, today's hardcore science is finished! There are still places that you don't understand, you can leave a message in the comment area!
