About the Author:

Mervyn Cooke is a pianist and composer and professor of music at the University of Nottingham. He was educated at the Royal College of Music, Dover Boys' Grammar School and King's College, Cambridge, where he received an open scholarship and completed his doctoral dissertation. He is a Music Fellow and Director of Research at Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge. In 1993 he went to Nottingham as a music lecturer. During his time at the University of Nottingham, he was also Head of The Department of Music and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Letters. He has written and edited numerous books on jazz history, film music, and Benjamin Britten, such as Jazz and A History of Film Music.
