The former host of the "Daily Show" said in an interview with CNN on the 17th that American political commentators have "made a mistake" to blame Trump for the divisive remarks in the United States, and they should turn their attention to the threat posed by the larger system, which has dangerously accepted the "idea that power itself is a reward."

Stewart said, "I think we made the mistake of focusing all our attention on Trump as if he were... Magneto and the incredible supervillains have changed the nature and temperament of America. He was just an effective channel, but he didn't sing new songs. I think it's wrong to focus all your attention on this one person and not pay more attention to the idea that 'power itself is a reward', whether in the financial industry or in government. Power doesn't give up on itself, and unless we find a better way to balance it, we'll be vulnerable. Stewart suggested that it's time for the U.S. media to abandon the idea that "authoritarianism is purely Trump-related."

The report mentioned that when the CNN host emphasized Trump's ability to identify "democratic weaknesses," Stewart made the above remarks in response. CnN moderators said at the time that "he [trump] now supports candidates for secretary of state in battleground states who are lying," referring to Trump's remarks about the "theft" of the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Stewart replied, "If we've identified the most vulnerable pressure points in the guardrail, that's where we should focus our efforts on strengthening." It's encouraging that at the grassroots level, people really see it as something they want to protect and strengthen. As for whether he thinks incumbent President Joe Biden is doing a good job, Stewart said, "I don't think anybody is doing a good job." (Edit: HHJ)
