March Car Sales Express, Passenger Car Sales Fall 18% in the First Four Weeks

According to the data released by the Association of Passenger Vehicles a few days ago, in the first four weeks of March 2022 (March 1-27), the retail sales of passenger cars of major domestic manufacturers fell by 18% year-on-year and 10% from February.

According to the data, in the first week of March (1-6), the average daily retail sales of passenger cars of major manufacturers were 37,125 units, down 13% year-on-year and 42% higher than the same period in February. In the second week of March (July-13), sales picked up, with the average daily retail sales of passenger cars of major manufacturers reaching 45,745 units, a slight increase of 3% year-on-year and 75% year-on-year.

Since the third week of March, the sales of passenger cars in the passenger car market have been greatly affected due to the recurrence of the epidemic in many places. In the third week (14-20 days), the average daily retail sales of passenger cars of major manufacturers fell to 35,041 units, a sharp decline of 29% year-on-year and 25% from the same period in February. Sales in the fourth week (21-27) were still not ideal, with an average daily retail sales of 39,146 vehicles, a year-on-year decline of 29% and a 46% decrease from the same period in February.

Judging from the sales volume in the first four weeks of March (1-27 days), the average daily retail sales of passenger cars of major manufacturers were only 39,344 units, down 18% year-on-year compared with 48,138 units in the same period last year; compared with the same period in February, down 10% month-on-month.

The last four days of March (28-31) are the key moments for manufacturers to impact their quarterly sales targets, and dealers are bound to seize the time to complete the delivery, so the Association expects retail sales in the domestic passenger car market in March to be about 1.58 million units, down 10.4% year-on-year.

From the perspective of wholesale sales, the average daily wholesale sales of major manufacturers in the first four weeks of March (1-27 days) were 48,158 vehicles, down 12% year-on-year compared with 54,565 units in the same period last year; compared with the same period in February, it was down 6% month-on-month. Due to the repeated epidemics in many places, coupled with the rise in the price of new energy vehicles, the retail sales of stores have fallen significantly, and the enthusiasm of dealers to purchase goods is not high.
