The newborn suddenly had hemolytic anemia and changed the blood twice before being rescued

Modern Express News (correspondent Liu Haixia reporter Gu Xiao) newborn babies suddenly have severe hemolytic anemia, pale skin, decreased blood oxygen, liver and spleen enlargement, bilirubin is constantly rising, and the condition is constantly deteriorating. At the critical moment, the medical staff of Yangzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital immediately rescued the child and changed the blood of the child twice, which finally turned him into a safe situation. On March 30, the child recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

On the night of March 17, Wu Xinping, director of the Neonatal Department of Yangzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital, received a call from the department staff on duty, and the test results of a newborn child who had just been admitted to the hospital on the same day showed severe anemia. With years of clinical experience, Wu Xinping realized the seriousness of her condition and immediately rushed to the hospital. Wu Xinping told the Modern Express reporter that the normal value of hemoglobin at birth was more than 145g/L, but the child's hemoglobin was only 78g/L, and the child's skin was pale, hypoxaemia, shortness of breath, hepatosplenomegaly and so on.

According to reports, the causes of neonatal anemia are complex and diverse, and the baby is born with severe anemia, which not only brings hypoxia to the body, but also serious and even life-threatening.

Yangzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital immediately carried out a series of treatments for the children such as oxygen inhalation, infection prevention, gamma globulin prevention and immune hemolysis, coordinated testing, ultrasound, X-ray and other auxiliary emergency examinations to find the cause, and contacted the blood transfusion department and the central blood station to prepare for blood matching. At this time, the yellow staining of the child's skin has been obviously revealed, and the blood bilirubin is significantly increased again.

Based on years of clinical experience, Wu Xinping judged that the child should have developed severe hemolytic anemia. The medical staff present immediately gave the child intensive light therapy, with washing red blood cells for blood transfusion and blood exchange preparations, after a night of rescue, the child's vital signs tended to be stable.

However, the child's condition was full of twists and turns, and the next evening, the child's bilirubin continued to increase significantly. In order to prevent the deterioration of the condition, Wu Xinping immediately carried out blood exchange therapy for the child and lowered bilirubin to prevent and treat bilirubin encephalopathy and improve the prognosis of the child. After 2.5 hours, the blood of the child's whole body was exchanged twice, and the rescue was initially successful.

After 72 hours of day and night waiting, the child finally turned the corner, follow-up monitoring jaundice has basically subsided, and the baby's nervous system examination and monitoring are normal.

According to Wu Xinping, hemolysis is the antibody in the mother's blood entering the newborn's body, the immune response occurs, and the newborn's red blood cells are destroyed, which is a very high-risk neonatal emergency. Once severe hemolytic symptoms occur, emergency blood transfusion and exchange therapy are required, otherwise it is very likely to lead to neonatal anemia, edema, bilirubin encephalopathy, heart failure and even death.
