The specially decorated | the last days of the last Tsar: one of the most puzzling unsolved cases of the 20th century

Dynastic succession is a common occurrence in history, but there are few rulers like Nicholas II, whose entire family was wiped out and who did not retain any blood. Arguably, the last days of the last Tsar were one of the most puzzling cases of the 20th century.

Yilin Publishing's recently published book "The Last Tsar", which refers to a large number of materials that have not been accessed by previous generations, including the Tsar's diaries, conversation records, and records of official investigations, with anatomical and careful study of these materials, has made new discoveries and understandings of nicholas II's crisis-ridden rule, and tried to break through the fog surrounding the plight of the last Tsar's family.

What's so unique about this book?

Written by Robert Servis

He is currently a fellow at St Anthony's College, Oxford, and a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, specializing in the history of the October Revolution until Stalin's death. He has published many heavyweight works such as "Lenin's Biography", "Stalin's Biography", "Trotsky's Biography" and so on.

As a famous historian of Soviet Russia, Servis read a large number of materials that were not accessible to previous generations with dissectional prudence and meticulousness, including the Tsar's diary, the records of conversations, official investigation records, etc., and gave them unreservedly in this "The Last Tsar". Let us have a new understanding of the crisis-ridden reign of Nicholas II:

Why did Nicholas II embark on the path of abdication?

What happened to the whole family when they were placed under house arrest?

Who gave the final order for execution?

Are there any survivors?

Who made the rumor about the little princess Anastasia?

How did Nicholas II see his place in the torrents of history? (There was much judgment on the Tsar, but few of his own voices could be heard.)

Three Thousand Years of Jerusalem

Author Simon Montefiori praised

"It's a must-read for anyone who wants to learn about this history. Servis modestly corrected two prejudices, which either regarded Nicholas II as a gentle gentleman or, quite the opposite, as a bloody tyrant. Service wisely showed that he had always had both temperaments. ”

The wheels of history are rumbling and the reign of the imperial power is in jeopardy, but the last tsars and nobles are still trying to revel in vanity and glitz.

"In the book, I want to show not only the former glory of the dynasty, but also the decay of the end of the crossbow, and use the conflict between prosperity and decline to create the last years of the last tsar's dream of waking up the glass fragments. At the same time, in order to echo the modesty of the cover, it was finally decided that the tone of the book mouth should be solemn black, gold and silver. ”

Pattern elements

The calligraphy is an original design, but every element is extracted from historical sources. Reference material is plentiful, ranging from the menu on Nicholas II's big day, the royal collections of Tsarist Russia to photographs of the last ball of the last Tsar.

"I looked at a large number of pictures and videos, and extracted elements from which the cross, the crescent moon, the peacock, the precious stones, the golden light, the pearl necklace, etc., all have great symbolic significance in religious or personal status symbols. In order to integrate these elements in a reasonable and well-founded way, I used the last luxurious ball of the Romanov court as inspiration to design a holistic idea: the end of the dynasty, but it is difficult to change the poverty and extravagance, the people in power are whitewashing the peace in the interplay of the chips, the outside world, the pace of the revolution is approaching, and finally the song is finally dispersed, the lights are extinguished, and only the shining jewels emit a wordless glow in the darkness, witnessing the end of an imperial dynasty. ”

The last days floated in the air and admired themselves, and the pearls fell and were not picked up

Power collapses, and treasures are left alone

Like the fate of the last dynasty

Scattered, gone forever...
