Ineos total driver Egan Bernal nearly lost his life in a serious crash during a training session in January this year. After two months, with super resilience, he was back on the bike again.
Bernal was seriously injured when he rear-ended a bus parked on the side of the road at 62km/h during time trial training at the end of January. The accident caused 20 fractures in different parts of his body, as many as 11 rib fractures alone, and left two perforations in his lungs.
On Sunday night, the Tour de France-Italy winner from Colombia updated a photo of him riding his bike outdoors on his personal social media, with the following remarks: "After 20 fractures, 2 months later, I'm back here and I crave more!" See you on the way! ”。
From the photos, Bernal, dressed in the full gear of the Ineos team, rides the team version of Pinarello on the open roads of Colombia.
This is supposed to be the first time Bernal, 25, has ridden a bicycle on an open road after experiencing a tragic car accident at the end of January.
Bernal has been updating his recovery progress on his personal social media, and in the middle of this month he posted a photo of him doing recovery training on the bike station. His recovery speed was astonishing, and the convention of "breaking his bones for a hundred days" did not seem to apply to him, and in just 2 months he had recovered to a level where he could ride on the road.
As of press time, the Ineos team still has not said when Bernal will return, and the team will not put pressure on him. One of the team's coaches said Bernal's recovery was progressing very quickly and could even return to the field before the end of the 2022 season.
