According to the Synthetic Biology Ventures Report for the Fourth Quarter of 2021 published by Synbiobeta, synthetic biology media outlets, 2021 was the best year ever for synthetic biology startups to invest in overall, with a total of nearly $18 billion in investment, almost the full amount of the previous years since the field emerged in 2009.
Since the beginning of the year, a number of Chinese synthetic biology related start-ups have released financing information, such as pilot bio's C round, C+ round financing, Zhongke Xinyang's B round of financing, Sunris, Yingjia Hopson's A round of financing, Demert, Zeno's angel round of financing, etc., all of which let us see the vitality shown in the field of synthetic biology in the new year.
Synthetic biology, also known as engineering biology, integrates engineering science concepts with life science principles and multidisciplinary enabling technologies to design and synthesize new or modified natural living systems, reveal the laws of life, and build a new generation of engineering biological systems; it is known as "the key to understanding life" (creation knowledge) and "subversive technology that changes the future" (creation application).
The concept of engineering science is inseparable from the application of the landing, and the application of the landing needs to make the innovation results of the laboratory closer to the needs of the enterprise. With the original intention of promoting the innovation and development of the synthetic biology industry, the synthetic biology entrepreneurship competition has specially set up enterprise challenges, through the way of enterprise questions, hoping to help the industry think about the subversive impact of synthetic biology on the field where the industry is located, looking for potential business partners /talent reserves/battle bidding, etc., while helping the participating teams to solve the needs of enterprises, excavating the combination point of scientific research and industrial applications, so that scientific research can be commercialized and a new ecology of the synthetic biology industry can be built.
Participating teams of the Enterprise Challenge will have the opportunity to receive awards such as corporate cooperation, media reports, capital and industry exchanges, participation in entrepreneurship camp training, certificates and so on.
At present, the competition topics from Mengniu, bp China, Jiabiyou, Azure Bio, BASF, Bloomage Bio and Huaheng Bio have been released.
Entry requirements
The corporate challenge is an individual registration system, which does not restrict factors such as job title, age and project rotation. If the submitted solution is a team result, it is necessary to clarify the relevant information of the team in the submission materials, and please communicate within the team, and use the main contact person as the main body of the registration and submission plan to facilitate subsequent contact and communication. Projects and information requirements
1. In the submission of entry materials, the project party shall strive to be objective, fair, true, effective and accurate;
2. The participating projects need scientific research and academic norms, good social reputation, no bad records, and if the established enterprise needs to be standardized;
3. The participating projects shall not involve secrets and infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of others' intellectual property rights, and if the participants are university researchers, they must also comply with the confidentiality and intellectual property requirements of the institutions;
4. If the research of the participating projects involves the scientific research of human subjects and the collection, preservation, utilization, and external provision of human genetic resources, it shall comply with the laws, regulations, ethical guidelines and relevant technical specifications of the country where the company is registered and China.
Judging Criteria
The judges will review the solidity of literature and theory, the innovation and feasibility of the solution, the potential of industrial application, and the willingness to cooperate.
