Among them is OtherSide, the developer of the Cyber Raider series, who issued a statement in 2020 saying that the series will continue to move forward under the leadership of Tencent, and the "Cyber Raiders 3" and "Cyber Raiders 4" websites have also been transferred to Tencent's name. They believe Tencent will take the game to new heights.

Originally, the development of "Cyber Raiders 3" was not smooth, so it was a good result to be taken over by Tencent, which has strong financial strength, and the players and fans of the series are also looking forward to the new work. But two years later, there has been no new news about the game.
In an interview with Warren Spector, the original creative consultant of the recent series, players were suspicious of the purpose of Tencent's takeover. Warren Spector said, "Tencent has taken over the development of the Cyber Raiders series of games. Now it's up to them, and I have nothing to say." He then added: "We developed the project in 2018 and 2019 and that's about it. ”
Literally, the current development of the new game has nothing to do with the original developers. However, some players feel that the first half of the sentence is obviously to express dissatisfaction with Tencent, combined with the situation that there has been no news, some players speculate that although Tencent may still be silently developing, it does not rule out the possibility that the project has been strategically hidden.
However, I do not agree with this speculation, generally speaking, game manufacturers immediately take the initiative to hide after receiving an IP, all in order to sweep away competitors for the future of their new games, Tencent did broadcast a film at last year's 2021 TGA Awards, but the gameplay is not similar to "Cyber Raiders", and there is no wind to say that Tencent is doing sci-fi horror FPS games in its hands.
So I think the probability is because the IP of "Cyber Raiders" itself is unpopular, many people have not heard of it, even if the new work is made, the market limitations are very large, the IP monetization ability is too weak, coupled with the impact of the cold winter of the version number, the return cycle is too long or even a project that will lose money, Tencent is unlikely to continue to spend energy at this stage, so it is a reasonable speculation to choose to shelve. If you use this to argue that "Tencent is not a good investor" and "Tencent will intervene in game development after investment", it does not make sense.
Because Tencent investment in addition to making money and want to rely on it to save some reputation, most of the small game developers and independent studios, when accepting Tencent's investment, are facing lack of funds, frequent management chaos and other operational difficulties, OtherSide is no exception. Since the release of the sequel news in 2015, OtherSide Studio has exposed a series of negative news, the first two years of rumors of departure and bankruptcy, simply unable to develop the game, even if Tencent takes over, it is likely to fall into the same development hell as Ubisoft's "Beyond Good and Evil 2".
Cyber Raider IP is too old for young players to recognize
After the investment/acquisition, forcibly taking over such an IP that now seems super unpopular is not good for Tencent at all. Of course, in the future, it is also possible to train the new team with ideas, but to throw away a little reputation that is not easy to establish, the cost is too large, it is really unnecessary, and the development of this IP is better to continue to be placed in the hands of OtherSide.
This wave of rhythm is only over-interpreted at present, just like the previous "Black Myth: Wukong" project has also sent out a lot of personnel change news, but after the game science official work video, players can also be rational. Whether Tencent is a good investor or not, it is too early to draw conclusions.
