UFC: Yadong won ko again, but this piece of Chinese players was almost blank

On the morning of March 13, Chinese boxing fans received another piece of good news: "Kung Fu Monkey" Yadong once again won the opponent with KO, and in the first round he ruthlessly brought down his opponent Malone Morales by relying on his right hand flat hook punch. The Chinese youngweight player is getting better and better in the UFC sub-level, and the future is bright.

After entering the UFC's first guillotine in 2017 to defeat the Indians, Song Yadong lost only one of his 10 UFC matches and ended his opponents in a KO/TKO manner on four occasions. But when it comes to surrender, the author finds a strange phenomenon: this familiar way of ending, which was first shown to the majority of MMA fans by Zhang Tiequan, the first person in the UFC, has now become very rare in Chinese players.

In this issue, we may wish to count the surrender records of Chinese players in the UFC arena and analyze why there are fewer and fewer surrenders to opponents now?

Li Jingliang: The UFC has surrendered the opponent 0 times

UFC: Yadong won ko again, but this piece of Chinese players was almost blank

Li Jingliang, who is more senior than Yadong, entered the UFC arena as early as 2014. If you don't count the infamous Kazakh calibrat Jumabek (UFC 3 defeats), Li Jingliang can be called the second person in China's UFC.

In Li Jingliang's winning record, there are as many as 7 KO/TKO experiences to end opponents. However, in his 8 years at the UFC, he has never won a single surrender. The last time Li Jingliang surrendered in his career was at the 2013 Wulin Legends Tournament (which no longer exists), when he subdued his opponents at the guillotine in the third leg.

Not only did he not surrender his opponent in the UFC arena, Li Jingliang lost two more times in the match he was subdued by his opponent: he lost to Ktaro Nakamura in 2015 and to Chimayev in 2021, both of which were naked by his opponents.

Zhang Weili: The UFC surrendered the opponent once

As the most accomplished Chinese UFC player, former women's gold belt winner Zhang Weili has only surrendered to her opponent once, that is, the 2018 cross-solid surrender to Aguilar. Zhang Weili has played a total of 7 games in the UFC, 5 wins and 2 losses, and the two defeats have occurred recently, against the same person - Namayunas.

Song Yadong: The UFC surrendered the opponent once

As mentioned in the opening paragraph, Song Yadong's only surrender came in his UFC debut, when he used the guillotine to subdue indian players. However, it is done with the opponent almost being TKO, rather than starting with a fight and ending with surrender. But this is not surprising to Yadong's fans, because he is not a wrestler, but a player who mainly plays standing.

Zhang Tiequan: UFC surrendered the opponent 1 time, WEC surrendered the opponent 1 time

Unexpectedly, the most frequent surrenders on the Chinese MMA field is the veteran figure "Steppe Wolf" Zhang Tiequan. As early as 2010, he appeared in the same event as Jose Aldo, that year's sub-event WEC of the UFC, when Zhang Tiequan made people know this player with a guillotine surrender.

In 2011, Zhang Tiequan officially made his UFC debut, he surrendered Reinhardt, also relying on the guillotine. However, his last three UFC matches suffered consecutive defeats, and was called a "one-trick" by Chinese boxing fans, only guillotine players. In fact, before signing the UFC, Zhang Tiequan's experience of surrendering opponents in the competition was indeed very much, including neck bending, guillotine, naked twisting, triangle lock, Kimura lock and other various surrender wins.

Other Chinese players: The UFC has surrendered the opponent once in total

An embarrassing record emerged: almost none of the other Chinese players who had competed in the UFC arena had completed the surrender.

Song Kenan, as a standing player, has had several KO/TKO wins, but has never surrendered;

Female player Yan Xiaonan, who has not surrendered, Wu Yanan surrendered to Muller in 2018, which was the only time she surrendered to win in the UFC;

Zhang Lipeng, Ning Guangyou, and Wang Anying, who entered the UFC through the TIF draft, have not surrendered;

Liu Pingyuan, Alateng Heili, Hu Yaozong did not surrender;

As for the Tibetan/Yi players in the southwest region, they are mainly practicing standing blows, and it is even more unlikely that there will be a surrender victory. In summary, most of The men's players in China have won the UFC competition.

There are more and more black belts in Chinese jiu-jitsu, why can't we surrender and win?

UFC: Yadong won ko again, but this piece of Chinese players was almost blank

Friends who pay attention to the Brazilian jiu-jitsu circle know that the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt in China is not as rare as it was in the past, but shows a situation of blooming everywhere. As long as the practitioners who started earlier in the year have been training, their level should have reached the level of black belt and obtained the ribbon. So, in the UFC arena, why is it so difficult for Chinese players to subdue their opponents?

In fact, in amateur competitions (such as the Beijing Boxing Gym Championship that the author once participated in), it is very easy to meet a seriously biased player and want to surrender. If you're a veteran driver who's been practicing ground fighting for two or three years and meets a player who has only practiced Sanda or wrestling/judo, it seems very easy to subdue him when he doesn't know anything about ground techniques.

So why is it so hard to surrender in the UFC arena? There are probably several reasons for the comprehensive analysis.

First of all, the Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt ≠ MMA tangling master

Among the above-mentioned Chinese players, Li Jingliang has already been a jiu-jitsu black belt, and other Chinese players also have a high rank, but the belt of jiu-jitsu is only a reference after all, and cannot be equated with the fighting god in the octagonal cage.

Unbeaten in his career, the top fighter in the UFC arena, Habib Noor-Magomedov, is actually a man who has never practiced Brazilian jiu-jitsu and should be a white belt (junior player) if he counts the ranks.

Much of the tangling technique in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is based on the conditions of a taoist costume, while in MMA sports, players do not wear taoist clothes and are covered in sweat, making it very difficult to control their opponents.

Secondly, the ground technical training of Chinese players for MMA needs to be improved

Many domestic boxing gyms think that hiring brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts to guide MMA players will be all right, in fact, many baro black belts have not played MMA matches themselves. Like some well-known fighting gods in the UFC arena, such as Damian Maia, "Crocodile" Sosa and others are not only strong in jiu-jitsu, but also have their own set of fighting methods to deal with MMA by summarizing the experience of the MMA field, which is different from the simple Brazilian jiu-jitsu wrestling.

In this regard, Chinese players are still "partial".

Finally, China's UFC players have a gap in strength with each other

Not many people can now deceive people with Brazilian jiu-jitsu "small fights big". As a heavy competition, it is obvious that the desire to subdue the opponent is also based on strength, and in the case of similar levels of ground entanglement between the two sides, the final competition is still "whose absolute strength is greater". As an Asian, it is obvious that the muscle dimension is not as big as that of white/black, so it is even more difficult for Chinese players to surrender.

To put it bluntly, many Chinese players in that year could win by surrendering their opponents continuously, there were great accidental factors, and it was very likely that the opponents of that year did not pay enough attention to the ground fighting. Today, in the UFC arena, almost everyone will pay attention to ground fighting, in which case it is more difficult to subdue the opponent.
