Read Li Zi's "Jane Eyre" dubbing creation notes

In September 2017, when I went to the home of my eldest brother Ren Peng, he said that the home has been renovated recently, and I have found out a lot of things about Li Zi, and you can sort them out when you come next time. When I went to Shanghai recently, I have been thinking about this matter. On the evening of April 12, after I came to my eldest brother's house and had dinner with my eldest brother and sister-in-law and Ren Zhong Xiaozhang, I offered to see the information of Teacher Li Zi's life. Due to the limited time, I roughly flipped through it and found that the content was very rich, including: "Jane Eyre", "Yesenia", "Conspiracy and Love" and other line books; Li Zi's letters to newspapers and periodicals; "Notre Dame de Paris", "Anna Karenina", "Handsome Boy" and other script analysis; interview materials about Li Zi and so on. This time, the first thing to share with you is Li Zi's dubbing creation notes of "Jane Eyre".

I. The Language Style of Jane Eyre and 6 "Little" 6 "Hate" 14 "Yes"

The British film Jane Eyre, translated by Shanghai Translation Factory in 1972, is known as a "textbook" dubbing model (also an actual textbook for art schools), which is enjoyed by a wide audience. The dialogue throughout the film is wonderful and unique, and the language is concise and rich in connotation. At that time, many viewers could recite backwards like a stream, and it was also a reserved program for young students to perform on stage, and even became a "sharp weapon" for young men and women to court (when they were in love, they all loved to memorize poems and lines).

For the language of such a film, Teacher Li Zi wrote in his notes: The language of the film should be implicit, hiding the viewpoint in the language of art, exhausting the meaning, the meaning is profound, the aftertaste is long, tempting people to use their brains and explore the inner truth... The language of a successful film, like a jewel embellished with an artistic treasure, is intriguingly forged by deep thoughts, incisive insights and fiery passions.

Teacher Li Zi once said: "Jane Ai is one of my favorite and most dedicated characters. At that time, I threw my whole body into it, and my heart was really like turning the sea upside down, sometimes a short sentence, only a few words, but the inner thing was pressed, and it would erupt at any time. ”

At the end of the film, Jane Eyre and Rochester meet in Fending. Jane Eyre said 5 "yes" in a row, and each "yes" was a landscape. Including the 5 "yeses" at the end, Jane Eyre said a total of 14 "yeses" throughout the film. There are only two words, but it highlights Jane's calm, repressive, humble, self-respecting and self-loving personality.

In addition to the 14 "yes", Teacher Li Zi himself also summarized 6 "a little" and 6 "hate". Regarding the dialogue relationship between the hero and heroine, there are 6 "little points", teacher Li Zi recorded in his notebook:

Luo: What did you learn in school? Music? Play?

Jane: It will be a little bit.

Luo: Of course, they are all... Will " a little. "Well—the piano is there, play it... Whatever.

RB: Okay, okay. You really can... A little ah (Li Zi teacher's note: "a little" is an anti-language).

Luo: I see you can still draw so... "a little bit".

Jane: Yes.

Luo: It's a little bit better than you play. You see, I'm in a better mood today.

Jane: It's a little better.

These 6 "little bits" are heavy and angry, some are gently resentful, and some are suppressed and counterattacked... (Note to me: In the second half of the film, after Jane Eyre leaves Rochester and is rescued by St. John's siblings, one day Jane Loves to play the piano, and St. John says: You play very well.) Jane Love replied: I only play a little. )

Regarding the 6 "hates", Teacher Li Zi has the following records:

Jane: How much I hate here. Why is she so cruel to you?

SEA: Miss Scarchard? She didn't like me.

Jane: I hate her.

SEA: No! You shouldn't hate, Jane.

Jane: I hate.

Jane: I hate it more than I hate Mrs. Reed.

Second, the important scenes of the film

Jane Loves is an adult and is about to apply as a tutor for a little girl. Jane meets Brockhurst in front of Helen's grave.

D: It's so nice to run into you at a time like this, I... I want to talk to you about something. I know you wrote back to Mrs. Fairfax of Thornfield... Apply as... A teacher of a little girl.

DB: The directors said... willing...... Recommend it.

Jane: Thank you!

Regarding this passage, Teacher Li Zi wrote: Jian Ai sensed that the school was going to send her out, "yes" and "thank you" these two simple lines, including how many internal meanings.

In the garden, Jane Eyre confides her feelings to Rochester, with the following lines:

Why are you telling me this? She has nothing to do with you and me, do you think I am poor, not good-looking, and have no feelings? I will too, if God gives me wealth and beauty, I will make it difficult for you to leave me, just as it is difficult for me to leave you now. God didn't. Our spirits are equal, just as you and I, passing through the grave, will stand before God in the same way.

Regarding this passage, Teacher Li Zi wrote: I think this is the author's point in the whole film. This line fully shows Jane Eyre's inner world, reflects her typical character of pursuing equality and being an equal person, and expresses her innocent love that is difficult to leave Rochester. How to match this scene well? On the basis of repeatedly pondering the original film and deeply exploring the inner thoughts and feelings of the characters, I decided to use a decisive and crisp tone in reading and pronunciation, both to see the voice and move with emotion, and strive to make the dubbing dialogue produce a momentum like a flash flood and a thousand miles, so as to fully display the character's distinct personality and inner thoughts and feelings.

In addition, regarding the method of reading words in the whole film, Teacher Li Zi also has instructions: the lines are short - the reading words are clean and neat, the lips and swords are sword, the answers are like flowing, XX (unclear handwriting) is powerful, and it is always in confrontation.

At the end of the film, Jane Eyre and Rochester meet in Fending with the following lines:

Luo: Who's there? Mrs. Fairfax, are you? Is there anyone there?

LUO: Uh-huh. All right. Ah, there's no one there, how can you be somebody? Well?

LR: Is there anyone there, I said? Who is it?

Jane: It's me.

RON: Jane?

Jane: Yes. yes.

Luo: Laugh at me.

LUO: It's you, Jane, it's really you. Are you coming to see me? Didn't expect me to be like this, huh? (Laughs) How?

Luo: Crying? Tut! Don't need to be sad, how long can you stay? ...... An hour or two? Don't just go. Or do you have one... Impatient husband... Waiting for you.

Jane: No.

Luo: Not yet married, this can be... Not so good, Jane. You look like... Not beautiful, this you are... Can't be too picky.

Luo: But it is also strange, why did no one propose to you?

Jane: I didn't say no one proposed to me.

Luo: Got it. Yeah, well, Jane, you should get married.

Jane: Yeah, that's right, you should get married too. You, too, are like me, and can't be too picky.

Luo: Yeah, of course not. Well, that... When are you... marry? I picked Adele back from school.

Jane: What's getting married?

Luo: Heck, didn't you say you were going to get married?

Luo: So sooner or later... A fool will find you.

Jane: I hope so. There's a... fool...... I've been looking for me for a long time.

Jane: I'm home, Edward, let me stay.

Regarding this scene, Teacher Li Zi wrote: Suddenly a warm current was sent to this lonely, disabled, desolate person, and the hero and heroine seemed to have hope in the sunset, which was felt in the depths of Jane Eyre and Rochester's subjective inner world. At this time, the audience also shares their warm happiness with the hero and heroine.

Third, about the personality characteristics of the hero and heroine

Teacher Li Zi's notes read:

Jane Eyre: It is a typical image of a person who demands to be an equal and has a spirit of resistance, at first glance it seems to be a cold and ruthless person, it is the past encounters, experiences, abuse, discrimination, so that this person has no feelings. This view simplifies the character, singular, in fact this character's feelings are very rich, she has feelings for Helen, and even before and after rochester, love him, and have feelings for him.

Rochester: You can't think of him as a rough personality, even capricious, always putting on a superior posture to bully others. What is the essence of this character? The words of Fairfax: He did not mean to hurt people, half his temper, half ... (The film did not say it, and Teacher Li Zi's note was "situation").

Fourth, about the structure of the film and the relationship between the characters

Teacher Li Zi has the following records:

The first half of the play "Jane Eyre" introduces the relationship between the characters, as well as the development and arrangement of the plot, which has portrayed the character of Jane Eyre very clearly and brilliantly, with several strokes and a very clear outline. Jane Eyre has both a stubborn character, a rational mind, and a personality on the other side, she has rich feelings, compassion, she and Helen sleep in bed whispering, Helen is sick, fantasizing about meeting again later, and then going to Helen's tomb.

As a governess, she loves her children Adele.

After some time, Jane Eyre sympathized with Rochester's plight and the misfortunes of life, and she got to know Rochester, just as Mrs. Fairfax said: he did not mean to hurt people, half his temper, half his... (Situation)

In the end, they have a love, but the mood is extremely contradictory.

V. About the author of the novel

Teacher Li Zi wrote: The British feature film "Jane Eyre" is based on the novel of the same name by the famous British female writer Charlotte Brontë, Charlotte Brontë was born in 1816 in a rural priest's family in the northern mountains, because her parents died early, she and her five sisters and brothers have spent their unhappy childhood in a charity school like Rowwood depicted in similar movies, and later forced by life, some also worked as tutors. The author has created a new type of heroine in English literature based on his own personal experience. The image of an individual of lowly origins, but spiritual superiority, full of antagonistic feelings about the existing order. Jane Loves to pursue freedom and equality, she has the character characteristics of not yielding to the environment, although there are the limitations of the times and class, but she still has an undiminished charm in art, and she can also give people inspiration in thought.

Filmed in the United Kingdom in 1970, "Jane Eyre" is one of the most respected translations and productions by Chinese audiences, and its textbook translation language and wonderful dubbing are widely recited by people. Especially back then, ordinary people had the habit of "listening to movies", and more people listened to "Jane Eyre" than people watched this movie. In general, the film recording clip is narrated by the radio announcer, while the film recording clip of "Jane Eyre" is narrated by Mr. Li Zi himself. Recordings and clips of the film were later made into discs and collected by a wide audience.

In the manuscript left by Teacher Li Zi, I also found the commentary of the recording and editing of the "Jane Eyre" movie that Teacher Li Zi copied by Teacher Li Zi. This commentary was written by Sun Yufeng, director of the Shanghai Translation Factory, and copied by teacher Li Zi to the Central People's Radio. Judging from the printing unit of the manuscript paper, the manuscript paper is still provided by the other party. The text of this commentary alone is 36 pages long, and it can be seen from the dates marked on the cover (June 6, 1979) and the last page (June 9, 1979), and it took Teacher Li Zi 3 days to copy. I am very glad that there was no computer back then, otherwise this precious manuscript of Teacher Li Zi would not exist.
