Renowned game producer Hideo Kojima won the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award (Media Arts Category) at the 72nd Art Selection Awards of the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan wrote in the award speech: "'Death Stranding' is not only grand in scale, good quality and creative, but also touching in its personal creativity on this basis. Set in the post-disaster barren United States, the game takes on the role of a delivery man who completes the task of connecting places and collaborates with other invisible players in the open world to advance the game in a form of connection rather than battle. Since the birth of Metal Gear Solid in 1987, Hideo Kojima has once again gone beyond the existing theory of game design to show the world the infinite possibilities of games. ”
Awarded annually since 1950, the Art Selection Prize is designed to reward activities related to the revitalization of the arts. The Media Arts Awards were established in 2008 to recognize outstanding talents in subcultures such as theater, film, music, criticism, manga, and animation, and Hideo Kojima is the second person in the game industry after Shigeru Miyamoto to receive this award.
A total of 16 people won the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award at the 72nd Art Selection Awards, including Hideo Kojima, including Motoharu Sano and Ryusuke Hamaguchi. A total of 12 people won the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Newcomer Award, including manga artist Yoshinaga and singer Kaze Fujii.
