Recently, the Shanghai Translation Publishing House's new book "Becoming a Star" was first published, which is the essay work of Samantha ChristoFredi, italy's first female astronaut. As a true record, the book is both scientific and humanistic.

Samantha ChristoFredi was born on April 26, 1977 in Milan, Italy. In May 2009, at the age of 32, Samantha passed the European Space Agency's selection to become Italy's first female astronaut. In 2012, she was assigned as an accompanying engineer for the Soyuz TMA-15M spacecraft and was part of the 42/43rd Expedition to the International Space Station. On November 23, 2014, she flew a space mission to the International Space Station for 200 days.
In 2021, Samantha became the first European woman to be appointed as the commander of the International Space Station, a position she is scheduled to hold during the 68th isletion of the ISS in 2022. Samantha is not only a bold astronaut, but also a personal charm. She was the first Italian to drink espresso in space, and she also had her own "Barbie" image, which encouraged all girls and boys to dream of the future without restrictions.

Becoming a Star is Samantha's essay work published in 2018, and she takes the form of a diary to tell her own experience of pursuing her space dream and sharing her "space story", unveiling the mystery of the space industry and showing the world behind the astronauts.
The book is divided into two parts. The first part mainly introduces how Samantha went from a fighter pilot all the way through the barriers to become an astronaut trainee through the layers of the European Space Agency. With the help of informative plots, it portrays the severe tests and trials that an astronaut needs to undergo before actually flying into space, and also shows their extraordinary intelligence, endurance and professionalism.
Among them, there are many descriptions of the details and use techniques of the spacecraft and related equipment, which improve the level of the work from the technical level, and at the same time add a variety of experiences and psychological activities of a witness, so that the work is closer to a literary work than an ordinary popular science book.
The second part of the book chronicles Samantha's 200 days of life in space on the International Space Station. She uses delicate brushstrokes to unfold a picture of a space journey for us: being sent into space by a rocket, docking with the International Space Station, the first experience of weightlessness, eating and drinking in space, physical exercise, scientific experiments... These curious and interesting things, as well as the magnificent miracles of the changing milky way outside the dome between 16 sunrises and sunsets in a day, are told in Samantha's pen.

"Becoming a Star" is a true record, with both scientific and humanistic colors. Samantha herself has taken 150 mini-books into space and selected works from different eras and languages as gifts to relatives and friends on their return voyage. At the beginning of each chapter, the book accurately quotes verses from Homer to Rilke, lyrics from Italian and Russian ballads, and poetic sentences from Saint-Exupéry and Calvino. Technology and humanities collide with romance in the book.
The book is accompanied by more than ten color illustrations, restoring the space in Samantha's eyes, and readers can feel the space scene immersively.
