The drama is adapted from the novel of the same name by national writer Toyoko Yamazaki, "Gorgeous Family" (Shincho Bunko). The novel was remade into a movie and TV series in 1974, but in 2007 it was adapted to the TBS television station "Sunday Theater", which is famous for dramas such as Naoki Hanzawa, and received high ratings. This version shows the history of the rise and fall of the family from the perspective of Tetsuhei, the son of The Patriarch of Manju, played by Takuya Kimura. This masterpiece, which attracted the hearts and minds of the Showa and Heisei eras, was finally revived in this worldwide struggle against suffering.
