New energy vehicle penetration rate of 21.8% in February Tesla continues to lead the list

A few days ago, the Association released the february 2022 sales data, and the wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles in February reached 317,000 units, an increase of 189.1% year-on-year, down 24.1% month-on-month, and the month-on-month decline was smaller than in previous years. Retail sales of new energy passenger cars reached 272,000 units in February, up 180.5% year-on-year and down 22.6% month-on-month, which was smaller than the trend in February of the calendar year.

In the specific brand wholesale sales data, Tesla continued to lead the list, with a total of 56,515 new cars wholesale in February, and wholesale sales exceeded 50,000 for six consecutive months. At the same time, in February, Tesla exported a total of 33,315 new cars, an increase of 339% year-on-year.

1) Wholesale: The wholesale penetration rate of new energy vehicle manufacturers in February was 21.8%, an increase of 12.2 percentage points from the penetration rate of 9.6% in February 2021. In February, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles of independent brands was 38%; the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in luxury vehicles was 29.4%,, while the penetration rate of new energy vehicles of mainstream joint venture brands was only 3.3%. In February, the wholesale sales of pure electric vehicles were 245,000 units, an increase of 161.7% year-on-year, and the sales of plug-in hybrids were 72,000 units, an increase of 350.9% year-on-year. In February, the sales of high-end electric vehicle models grew strongly, and the trend of low-end electric vehicles was also strong, and the dumbbell structure of the pure electric market improved, of which A00-class wholesale sales of 68,000 vehicles, accounting for 28% of pure electric vehicles; A0-class wholesale sales of 33,000, accounting for 14% of pure electric vehicles; A-class electric vehicles accounted for 23% of pure electric vehicles; B-class electric vehicles reached 85,000 units, down 15% month-on-month, accounting for 35% of pure electric shares.

2) Retail: The domestic retail penetration rate of new energy vehicles in February was 21.8%, an increase of 13 percentage points compared with the penetration rate of 8.1% in February 2021. In February, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in independent brands was 41.9%, and the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in luxury vehicles was 17.4%, while the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in mainstream joint venture brands was only 3.5%.

3) Exports: In February, 45,300 new energy vehicles were exported, maintaining strong growth, Tesla China exported 33,315 vehicles, SAIC motor passenger car exports 4,325 new energy vehicles, Dongfeng EasyJet exported 4,536 vehicles, DPCA 1,145 vehicles, BYD 804 vehicles, Geely Automobile 588 vehicles, SAIC Maxus 240 vehicles, other car companies new energy vehicles mainly in the domestic market.

4) Car companies: In February, the new energy passenger car market diversified, ANDD's pure electric and plug-and-mix two-wheel drive consolidated the position of its own brand new energy leader; the traditional car companies represented by SCO Group and GAC Group performed relatively prominently in the new energy sector. There are 5 companies whose wholesale sales exceed 10,000 vehicles, an increase of 2 over the same period, including: BYD 87,473 units, Tesla China 56,515 vehicles, SAIC-GM-Wuling 26,046 vehicles, Geely Automobile 14,285 vehicles, and Chery Automobile 10,271 vehicles. BYD, Chery, Geely, SAIC Volkswagen and others grew at a rate of 5-7 times compared with February last year.

5) New forces: In February, the sales volume of new forces such as Ideal, Nezha, Xiaopeng, Weilai, Zero Run, weima and other new forces performed better year-on-year and month-on-month, especially the month-on-month decline of Ideal, Nezha and Xiaopeng was smaller, and the second echelon enterprises such as Zero Run also increased their monthly sales by 10 times year-on-year. Among the mainstream joint venture brands, North and South Volkswagen's new energy vehicles were wholesaled to 11,916 units, accounting for 58% of the mainstream joint venture, and Volkswagen's firm electrification transformation strategy has achieved initial results. Other joint ventures and luxury brands are still waiting to be strengthened.

6) General hybrid: The wholesale number of ordinary hybrid passenger cars in February was 558.88 million units, an increase of 116% year-on-year and a decrease of 20% month-on-month. Among them, Toyota has 35,750 vehicles, Honda 16,225 vehicles, Dongfeng Nissan 1,389 vehicles, and GAC Motor has 617 passenger cars, and hybrid has gradually become a new hot spot.
