Chapter 3: Dream Heaven

The development of surrealist art is rapid, and it has made great progress in an almost completely new field, which is what they have discovered: dreams; or rather, dreams provide almost a whole new world for the pioneering development of surrealist art. Surrealist art focuses on people's spiritual world, surpassing all art genres in previous generations, and the depth and breadth of her pioneering is also unprecedented.

After the end of the First World War, Europe was full of holes, people reflected in front of the ruins, the old world and social order collapsed in the eyes of people, people were looking for new outlets of emotional catharsis, looking for the utopia of the spiritual world.

In 1900, Freud's Psychoanalysis came out, and Freud ushered in a new era of psychoanalysis with his interpretation of dreams. Freud said: Dreams as a whole are substitutes for something distorted, and some underlying conscious understanding of dreams is the material discovered by the subconscious.

The Manifesto of Surrealism says: Surrealism is a purely spiritual unconscious activity through which people express the true role of thought in words or in writing, or in other ways, which accepts only the revelation of thought, without rational control, without any absence of any aesthetic or moral prejudices.

Everyone dreams, dreams vary from person to person, strange, people in daily life acceptance and logical and ethical control, only in the night dream, by their own subconscious mind dominated by the brain, will freely show the deep consciousness.

In dreams, people peel off their shells, take off their disguises, remove their shackles, let their emotions vent, let their wings soar, here may be a refuge from a cold world, a free utopia, where the goddess of art holds high the torch and gives the dream to the surreal artist.

The irrational beauty of surrealism opens a wonderful window for modern art to explore, hunt for curiosity, and then treasure hunting. <detail>

As a result, people finally understand that the subconscious mind is the king of people's inner world, controlling people's actions and thoughts, and because of the rules of existence and logical ethics of social reality, people are limited by behavioral norms, thoughts, and people are powerless to change their surrounding environment in real life, so they have to create an irrational, illogical utopia in their own spiritual world. <detail>

Although the subconscious mind is not in line with rational and social norms, it is driven by human instincts and is the true expression of some of man's nature. Dreams are the state of the subconscious in a free, unrestrained state, the deepest spiritual, spiritual manifestation, like the echo of a distant primitive world, forming an epiphany and producing a sense of beauty. <detail>

Surrealist artists use rich artistic imagination and extremely realistic artistic techniques to express primitive impulses and subjective intentions, depict the subconscious and hallucinatory content into strange visual images, create a surrealist artistic realm between reality and imagination, concrete and abstract, and use symbols, metaphors, or techniques to cause the viewer's psychological shock and visual impact.

Surrealism depicts, discovers and presents the unconscious, the state of the unconscious, the belief that the real world is the world of dreams, the belief that the subconscious reflects the inner secrets of the soul and the world.

Dreams are usually perverse, confusing, worlds that rub the real world with the unreal world. There is no realm more complex, more colorful, more fantastical than dreams, which expose people's inner world, showing the past and present, and foreshadowing the future. <detail>

The theoretical proposition of Surrealism is a rebellion against traditional art, and he strives to excavate people's inner activities, combine the contradictions between body and spirit, truth and fantasy, emphasize that dreams are the expression of people's subconscious, liberate the imagination, play the poetic side, and abandon the rational side.

Social reality is cruel, people's dreams are warm, social reality is warm, and people's dreams are entangled. <detail>

In Europe at that time, there was a crazy demon who played with dreams, arrogant and arrogant, and he was Dalí, the most successful, the most brilliant, and the most famous god in the surrealist painting world.

Born on 11 May 1904 in Catalonia, Spain, Salvador Dalí studied at the Académie San Fernando in Madrid, but was expelled from the school twice in 1923 and 1926. Six-year-old dreams are to be a chef, seven-year-old dreams are to be Napoleon, such an arrogant figure, of course, must be in surrealist painting to do something!

Dalí is a natural surreal righteous man, and his paintings are strange mixtures of meticulous realism and absurdity. He declared, "My whole ambition in painting is to materialize concrete irrational images with the greatest precision that cannot be refuted." To achieve this goal, he devised a new creative method, the so-called "paranoid critical state", which evoked the illusionary image from the subconscious. His paintings are real and delicate from a partial point of view, but on the whole, they have no visual logic and are therefore only a nightmare. This dreaminess is further reinforced by excessive perspective and photographic clarity. These works are described by Dalí as "handmade dream photographs". Dalí was heavily influenced by Freud's psychoanalytic theory, especially sexual psychology, and his paintings often used symbolism to illustrate Freud's ideas.

In order to produce images from the subconscious mind, Dalí began to induce hallucinations in his body in a method that was said to be extremely effective, specifically that when he fell asleep, he would hold a spoon in his hand, and when he fell asleep, he would lose consciousness, and the spoon in his hand would fall to the ground, make a noise, wake him up, and then he would draw the scene in the dream, summarize it, conceive it, and then become a work of art.

How feasible this method of creation is, we will not discuss it for the time being, but at least it shows that the obsession of surrealist artists for the pursuit, performance, and expression of dreams has reached a rather persistent level.

When Dalí discovered this method, his painting style matured unusually quickly, and his paintings between 1929 and 1937 made him the world's most famous surrealist artist. In the dreams he depicts, in a strange and unreasonable way, ordinary objects are juxtaposed, distorted, or deformed.

The oil painting The Eternity of Memory was created in 1931 and is a very typical example of the early surrealist style of Dalí's The Eternity of Memory. The picture shows an empty beach, on which lies a mafi-like monster, the front of which resembles the remnants of a human head with only eyelashes, nose and tongue absurdly combined; there is a platform next to the monster, on which a dead tree grows; and the most amazing thing is that several clocks appearing in this painting have become soft and malleable things, which appear soft and collapsed, or hang on branches, or on platforms, or draped on the monster's back, as if these were made of metal. Clocks made of hard materials such as glass have been exhausted for too long, so they all come loose.

On the eve of World War II, all of Europe and the world were shrouded in the shadow of fascism. In order to express his fear and anger, Dalí used the surrealist technique in this painting to the fullest. The whole picture is absurd and terrifying, the main body in the painting is the image of the human body recombined after being dismantled, and the objects that resemble human internal organs are piled up on the entire ground. The center of the painting is framed by ugly hands and legs in a quadrilateral shape that seems to hint at fragmented Spain. The head at the top of the picture, as if showing off his victory, revealed a vicious treacherous smile. Two twisted and terrible hands, one on the ground, symbolized the oppressed people; the other held the breast upwards, symbolizing the scourge of war. The painter expresses fear in the form of physical violence through a pulled breast and an opposing ankle.

Dalí has developed his own unique artistic style, that is, the depiction of the concrete objective world is combined with arbitrary exaggeration, deformation, absurdity, weirdness, omission and symbolism, to create a "surreal" "artistic realm" between reality and imagination, concrete and abstract. Dalí was deeply rooted in the essence and essence of Surrealism, and he pushed the Surreal movement to the extreme.

Dalí's fame also lies in his arrogance, his words, ideas are very arrogant and arrogant, but people have to admit his artistic genius and artistic taste, understanding and persistence of art.

What Chinese artists lack is precisely this kind of taste and persistence, they are too casual and too materialistic, so it is difficult to push art to the extreme!

In fact, our world today also lacks such artistic genius! People who dare to shake off the customs and become their own.

Dreams <detail>are the most popular things, everyone will do, everyone has dreams, everyone's dreams are different, so dreams touch everyone's heartstrings, and it is also the only way to touch the softest part of everyone's heart.

The most famous dream in Chinese history is the story of King Chuxiang and Yaoji, which is the origin of Wushan Yunyu; the other is Li Yu, the famous emperor of the five dynasties of chen:

"The Rain Outside the Curtain"

Outside the curtain, the rain is babbling, and the spring is beautiful. Luo Yu was impatient with five more cold. In the dream, I did not know that I was a guest, and I was greedy.

Alone without a column, unlimited rivers and mountains, it is easy to see when it is difficult. Flowing water and flowers go to spring also, heaven and earth.

Human beings are still far from studying and understanding the origin and meaning of dreams, as the most complex stage in the subconscious world, there are always countless wonderful dreams born and poetry emerging.

Dreams are utopias, refuges, and perhaps even a ladder to heaven.
