Zhu Yanfu's company comrades were killed or frozen in the battle for 250 highlands, and all died. Zhu Yanfu, who was 17 years old at the time, was the only survivor of them. When reinforcements spotted him, his intestines flowed out of his body, his left eyeball was punctured, and his limbs froze into ice cubes.
After 47 surgeries and 93 days of coma, Zhu Yanfu woke up, but he lost both hands and feet, leaving only his right eye with 0.3 vision.
After the injury was stabilized, the stubborn Zhu Yanfu did not want to spend his life lying on the merit book. For the sake of his comrades-in-arms, he must live strongly and be a useful person.

With the determination to be crippled and not abandoned, Zhu Yanfu returned to his hometown, Zhangjiaquan Village, Yiyuan County, Shandong Province. At that time, in Zhangjiaquan Village, many villagers could not eat enough at home, and some people fled the wilderness for many years. Zhu Yanfu, who was bent on doing something, saw that most of the villagers were illiterate, so he took out his pension and set up a literacy night school.
Zhu Yanfu used two stump arms to hold the chalk, always wrote broken, broken writing, and later he invented the method of loading chalk in the bullet casing.
The village night school has been running for five years, and Zhu Yanfu has not stopped a day of classes. In 1957, the villagers unanimously elected Zhu Yanfu as the secretary of the village party branch. Everyone handed over the future of Zhangjiaquan Village to Zhu Yanfu, who had no hands and no feet. Since then, he has been on crutches and dragging an 8.5-kilogram prosthesis to the top of the mountain to the countryside. There are many dangerous roads in the mountains, and Zhu Yanfu has created four ways of walking, standing, kneeling, crawling, and rolling. In Zhu Yanfu's heart, he never forgot the comrades-in-arms who fought together and sacrificed for the country, and he often remembered that at the Battle of Chosin Lake in North Korea, the instructors were entrusted on their deathbeds, and if they lived, they must write down their stories and bring them back to the motherland. This instruction has always been placed on Zhu Yanfu's heart. Nearly 60 years old, Zhu Yanfu decided to write.
He wrote with his mouth biting the pen and holding it between his stumped arms. While reading hard, he conceived and created, and often had to look up the dictionary when he encountered words that he could not write.
It is by relying on a powerful spiritual force, the seven spring and autumn seasons, the seven drafts, and the work of life full of blood, to the world. On the day the work was published, Zhu Yanfu wrote the names of all the company's soldiers who died at The Lake of Chosin on the title page, and a man locked himself in the room and lit a book on fire.
