author:Encyclopedia of red wine

Some say that people who really understand French wine drink Bourgogne. The words may be subjective, but a bottle of fine Burgundy often has a soul-stirring aroma and a velvety taste, which is unforgettable, even if the price is not cheap, there are always people who yearn for it. However, the Burgundy origin law is more complicated, the vineyard division is also very fine, for this reason, the editor spent a lot of time to sort out the information of the main wine-producing villages in Burgundy, pure dry goods, hoping to help you learn wine or buy Burgundy wine. The article is longer, it is recommended to collect it first.

First, Shablis

Description: Chablis is located in the northernmost part of Burgundy, is the unique top white wine region of Burgundy, the climate is the coldest, belongs to the semi-continental climate, the winter is long and cold, the spring is humid, the summer is hot and sunny, suitable for growing white grape varieties. The best vineyards are covered with grey chalk clay marl, which is often referred to as Kimmeridgian. Moreover, chalk soil, while gathering sunlight and helping the grapes ripen, also gives the wine pure acidity, a distinct mineral sense and a complex structure.

Wine type and style: Chardonnay white wines are produced only, most without oak barrels. These wines generally have a mineral flavor, are more acidic, leaner, firm but not rough, and generally have aromas of citrus, pear and white flowers.

Well-known Grand Park:

Chablis Grand Cru has only one grand park, chablis Grand Cru, which is also the largest grand crust in Burgundy (104 hectares). Most of the Chardonnay white wines in the garden are aged in oak barrels, with complex bodies and strong ageing potential, some of which can be as long as 30-40 years old.

Due to the different microclimates, the chablis class park is divided into 7 adjacent parks, namely Les Clos, Vaudesir, Valmur, Blanchot, Les Preuses, Grenouilles and Bougros. These parks are located on the best sunny slopes and produce 3% of Chablis's annual production. Two of the best premium gardens are the Chloe Garden and the Wam Garden, where the wines are rich in mineral flavor, full-bodied, layered and of first-class quality.

Well-known wineries: Saint-Antoine, Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin

Second, the night mound

The following picture is a map of the wine-producing villages of Night Hill and Bern Hill, which are described below in order from north to south. It is worth noting that some villages are often named in the form of "village + vineyard", such as Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Aloxe-Corton, Puligny-Montrachet, etc., whose names are the most well-known vineyards in the village. This is mainly to enhance the reputation of the village and promote the development of the wine industry.

Dr. Jules Lavalle in 1855 and Camille Rodier in 1920 both named it Tete de Cuvee, the highest grade. Most of the village's vineyards are spread over the eastern slopes of the hill, close to the neighboring village of Vougeot.

Musigny: 10.67 hectares, this garden is one of the best Grand Gardens in Night Hill and even in Burgundy, and the only Grand Garden in Night Hill that produces both red and white wines, once divided into "big" and "small" Mussini Gardens, but it was merged in 1936. The vineyards are located on slopes, with a limestone and chalky soil covered with iron-bearing sediment, good drainage, and wines that combine elegance and strength, so they are described as an iron fist in a velvet glove.

Bonnes-Mares: 14.71 hectares, mostly located in chambord Musini village and extending to Morey Saint-Denis Village, owned by more than 30 owners. The village's wines are more robust and full-bodied, strong, structurally firm and very resistant to aging.

6. Fugu Village

Description: Vougeot takes its name from a small stream in the village, which is known mainly from its grand garden, Clos de Vougeot, where grapes are mostly grown on the slopes of the hill at an altitude of 240-280 meters.

Wine type and style: Both red and white wines are produced, with white wine accounting for 1/3 of the total production. The red wine style of Fujiu Village is relatively direct, and the wine body is mellow and full-bodied. White wines are often accompanied by mineral aromas, while longer-ripening wines have gingerbread, pear and fig aromas and are rich in flavor.

Well-known Grand Garden: Fugu Garden, 49.43 hectares, the largest Grand Garden in Yeqiu, the whole garden is separated from other vineyards by an ancient wall, and is currently owned by more than 80 wine merchants, including famous estates such as LeHua and Meo-Camuzet. The highest elevation of the old garden, adjacent to the castle, is dominated by chalk, gravel and limestone, with good drainage, and is adjacent to grand Echezeaux and Musini. The plots in the center are mostly relatively delicate limestone, clay and gravel, and the lowest plots are mostly impact loam. The classic Fukuen wines are stronger at a young age and deeper when aged, developing intense truffle and botanical flavours.

【Short Story】It is said that the Old Garden is the only vineyard in France that can accept the salute of the army. It is rumored that when Napoleon's Major General Bisson led his troops through the Old Garden, he ordered his troops to pay the highest salute to the garden. Thereafter, whenever French troops passed through the area, they would salute the garden as usual.

7. The village of Vlare Iseso

Description: Flagey Echezeaux is a small village in the Nocturne appellation, and because of its small size, it is often forgotten, and wines from village and first-class gardens can only be sold under the name Vosne-Romanee. However, most of the village is occupied by the following 2 well-known special grade gardens.

Echezeaux: 35.77 hectares owned by more than 80 wineries, the most famous of which are Romani Conti and Henri Jayer. The soil structure of the garden is relatively thin, and the interior includes multiple plots, and the wines produced vary in quality. Overall, the red wine style is very mellow and the texture is firm and powerful.

Grand Echezeaux: 8.78 hectares, next to the Old Garden. The soil is brown in color, and the surface layer is covered with a large amount of chalk limestone and clay. It is widely believed that the quality of the garden is superior to that of Isesso, which is more or less influenced by the grand (meaning "big") in its name. In terms of the style of the wine, the Great Iseso Garden is more solid in structure than the Iseso Garden, more concentrated, and full of rich black fruit aromas. At a young age, the wine is coarser and takes a certain amount of time to age. It is now owned by 21 wineries, including Romani Conti, Joseph Duluan and LeHua.

8. Vaughan Romani Village

Description: Vosne-Romanee is the most famous wine-producing village in NightHill, formerly known as Vosne, and in 1866, in order to pay tribute to la Romanee, a vineyard that the villagers are proud of, the village added "Romanee" as a suffix to the village name. The soil layer in the village is relatively deep, mainly clay and limestone.

Wine Types and Styles: A book once wrote: "There are no ordinary wines in the Village of Vaughan Romani. "The pinot Noir wine in the village is the best and most expensive wine in the world. The fruity flavours are particularly intense, deep, rich in flavours and very elegant, with a strong wine and a delicate palate that is very balanced.

Prestigious Grand Gardens: The village has 6 Grand Gardens, each of which is a treasure of Burgundy, which are:

La Romanee-Conti: 1.76 hectares. Part of La Romanee in the 17th century, the garden was acquired by Prince de Conti in 1760 and followed by Conti as a suffix. The garden has brown calcareous limestone soil and some chalk soil, all currently owned by DRC Winery. The garden is the most balanced of the Vaughan Romani Grand Garden wines, blending the characteristics of each neighboring Grand Garden to extract a more perfect and rounded flavor, with very little production and a rare sight on the market.

La Romanee: 0.84 hectares, originally named Le Cloux, renamed La Romanee in 1651 and now owned by the Liger-Belair family. Adjacent to the Romani Conti Garden, the garden has a lot of black limestone soil and produces only about 300 cases of wine per year.

La Tache: 5.08 hectares, exclusive to DRC Winery, very close to the Romani Kandi Garden, with similar soil conditions and producing wines comparable to the Romani Kandy Garden.

La Richebourg: 7.89 hectares owned by more than 10 vintners, the most famous of which are DRC, Le Birch and more. The wines of the garden are complex in flavor and grand in structure, and the good vintage can be equal to that of the Latash Garden.

La Romanee Saint-Vivant: 8.45 hectares below the slopes, with a deeper soil structure and softer wines than the vineyards of the neighborhood. DrC is the largest owner, occupying 5.3 hectares.

III. Bernchu

1. Pernan Virgeles Village

Description: The Pernand-Vergelesses appellation is located in the northernmost mountainous hill of Bernchuk, and because it is sandwiched between them, the vineyards are protected by the double slopes of Coltendon and the eastern slopes of the Quincho, protected from the prevailing local winds. The lower slopes are viscous limestone with the composition of "chaillots" (residual flint in siliceous limestone). The moderately high slopes are limestone and dotted with cobblestones, making them ideal for pinot Noir. The top slope is a brownish yellowish stucco, perfect for growing Chardonnay.

Wine type and style: Both white and red wines are produced here. White wines are balanced in taste and mineral in colour, making them very pleasant. Red wines are mild in taste, supple in tannins, rich and chewy, and well balanced in composition. White wines are slightly introverted and closed at a young age, with fruity notes of cream, pineapple and citrus, and often have a honey flavor, but the more mature they are, the more they show their charm.

Well-known first-class garden: Les Vergelesses, the best first-class garden in the village of Pernan Virgeles, about 18 hectares, facing the east, the terrain is relatively low, mainly clay.

Well-known winery: Domaine Bonneau du Martray is the only winery in Burgundy that produces only Grand Garden wines, producing only dry red and dry white from the Colden-Charlemagne Class.

2. Savigny Village

Description: Savigny-les-Beaune, located in the southwest of Pernan vegeles, has 22 first-class gardens. The first-class garden to the south is mainly on the east-facing hillside, while the northern one is located on the south-facing slope. The lower slopes are alluvial, and the higher slopes are distributed with iron ore with pebbles, and as the height decreases, the reddish-brown limestone gradually becomes sticky. In addition, the east-facing slopes of the appellation are limestone with sandy soils.

Wine type and style: This is the world of red wines, with only 10% white wine production. The style of the red wine is quite similar to that of the Bernese appellation, with full body, tight tannins, a full-bodied and well-balanced taste, but without the elegance of Volnay and some of the strength of Pommard, but in terms of price, it is definitely worth the money.

Well-known first-class parks: Les Peuillets, Les Narbantons, Les Lavieres

Well-known wineries: Domaine Chandon de Briailles, one of the top wineries in the north of Bernchu.

3. Arox Colden Village

Description: Aloxe-Corton is located in the eastern part of the village of Savigny. The second half of the village's name, "Colden", has always attracted the attention of many people who love Burgundy wines. In the mid-19th century, "Colden" was added as a suffix to the original village name "Arox", increasing the village's popularity. The soil of the village is a slightly reddish brown flint and limestone, rich in potassium and phosphoric acid. The soil in the northern region is pebble, clay and marl.

Wine type and style: Both red wines (98%) and white wines (2%) are produced here. Red wines are dark in color and intense in flavor. Due to the fame brought by the suffix Colden, the price of red wines here is much more expensive than those of similar quality in the nearby wine-producing villages.

Corton: 97.53 hectares, located in the lower part of Korden, is the only Grand Garden in the Bernchu region that produces both red and white wines, the largest Grand Orchard in Bernchuk and the largest Red Wine Grand Prix in Burgundy. The main owners are Joseph Duluan and LeHua Winery.

Corton-Charlemagne: 52.08 hectares, the vineyards are almost all on the highlands of the hills, producing the finest Chardonnay dry whites, full and rounded in style with nutty and creamy notes. Compared to the great Monthacher region, white wines here are more cost-effective.

Charlemagne: This garden produces white wines, and due to the small size of the vineyards that can use the name, this wine is so rare that the name is often overlooked.

Well-known winery: Domaine Poisot Pere et Fils

The annual Bourne Workhouse Charity Auction (Hospices De Beaune) is famous.

Wine type and style: Multi-producing red wines. Due to the sandy soil in the soil, the wine is medium-bodied, not as strong as the village of Boma, nor as elegant as the village of Volnay, but more delicate and supple than the village of Aroques-Korden, very charming, as an entry-level Burgundy wine is a very good choice.

Well-known first-class gardens: Les Greves, Les Bressandes, Les Teurons, etc. Among them, Les Greves is the best terroir in the Bourne region, the taste quality is comparable to the grand garden, and the Bouchard Pere & Fils Greves Vignes de L'Enfant Jesus, which is very well-known in the market, is a small Jesus garden plot from Les Greves.

5. Bhuma Village

Description: Pommard is located between Bourne and Volnay and is made of limestone and red clay. The hard limestone makes it necessary for the grapes to go deep underground to find water, which is conducive to the robust development of the grape root system and the absorption of more nutrients. The famous French master sommelier Raymond Doumay once said: "The secret of Bordeaux wine is in the cellar, and the secret of Burgundy is in the land." "The importance of the land and the roots in the Bamma region has always been tradition.

Wine type and style: The village produces only red wines, and the red wines here have always been recognized as typical of Burgundy. As early as the Middle Ages, Boma was chosen as the Flower of Burgundy and was regarded by many wineries as a model standard. The red wines of Boma Village are deep in color, aromatic, and have the taste of animal fur, rich in tannins, tight in structure, durable, and are considered the most powerful red wines in Bernchu.

Well-known first-class garden: Les Rugiens, one of the best first-class gardens in Boma Village, Les Rugiens-Hauts and Les Rugiens-Bas are two plots, the gap between the two is very weak, but Camile Rodier and wine master Jasper Morris believe that the downhill Les Rugiens-Bas is better, and give it the highest rating of super first-class garden, which has the strength to be rated as a special garden. The wines of Les Rugiens are usually strong and require a certain amount of time to settle.

6. Volnay Village

Wine type and style: only red wines are produced. Compared to Böhmer's strength, Volnay's red wines are very soft and elegant. Typical Volnay red wines are generally described as the most elegant and feminine of Burgundy wines, tending to be full of aroma, soft and wonderful taste, and very delicate tannins.

Well-known first-class gardens: Santenots du Milleu, Clos des Chenes, Les Caillerets, Champans, Taillepieds and En Chevret. Most of these vineyards are located in the middle of the Golden Hills slope, with excellent terroir conditions, good soil drainage properties, and rich limestone, in addition, the southeast-facing slope helps the vines to accumulate heat.

Well-known wineries: Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, Domaine Michel Lafarge, Domaine de Montille, etc. Among them, the Marquis de Angelville is also praised by Parker as one of the best wineries in the world, producing the most exquisite, pure and elegant red wines.

Well-known First Class Parks: Les Chames, Les Genevieres and Les Perrieres. The wines produced in these three vineyards often exceed the standard of the Grand Prix, and if Les Perrieres is the most intense wine in Volnay, then Les Genevieres is more elegant, and Les Chames is the largest of the three Tier 1 gardens, producing wines with a very direct taste and attractive even at a young age.

The soil in the village is mostly covered with limestone, with occasional stucco and calcareous clay. Grapes grown in this soil usually develop strong roots in order to get more water or nutrients.

Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet: 3.58 hectares, typically producing a full-bodied, slightly honeysweet and honeysuckle dry white, which is a bit more cost-effective than several other Grand Gardens with Monthachet.

Montrachet: 8 hectares, the most famous Grand Garden of Priny Monaché and the best white wine in Burgundy, spanning the two villages of Priny Monchache and Chessan Monthachet, owned by 18 producers, including DRC and Le Flays. The garden is world-famous for its Chardonnay dry white, which is expensive and produces very little. Among the 50 most expensive wines in the world counted on the internationally renowned price comparison website WS, the 3rd place is domaine Leflaive Montrachet Grand Cru, which is arguably one of the best dry whites in the world.

Batard-Montrachet: 11.73 hectares across the villages of Priny Monhache and Štěpán Monhache. Located beneath the Mont-Ha-she Garden, the wines are rich in flavor but lack a little less elegant than the Mont-Ha-Shee Knights' Gardens.

Well-known wine-producing villages:

1. Buzhehong Village

Bouzeron, the northernmost village in Sharonne Hill, is the only village out of 5 with neither a grand garden nor a first-class garden. The main product is white wine, which is lower in price, and the wine grape is Aligote. Grown in limestone mountains, these grapes produce wines of both depth and structure. It is worth mentioning that Bourgehorn is the only village-level legal appellation in Burgundy that uses Arigot winemaking.

2. Lully Village
