Born in Tianjin in 1927, Fan Zhenyu began performing on stage at the age of 15, initially as a comic actor. In 1950, Bai Bandui was his teacher. Bandui thought he was more suitable for the role of praise, so he changed to praise.
Fan Zhenyu joined the Tianjin Heping District Qu Art Troupe after leaving school, and met Gao Yingpei, cooperating for nearly 40 years. He has left behind classic works such as "Fishing", "Unhealthy Wind", "Everyone Is Happy", "Lessons", "People and Horses".
In 1985, Fan Zhenyu was selected as one of the "Top Ten Laughing Stars in China", but there was another version, Fan Zhenyu was replaced by Hao Aimin.
In 1996, Fan Zhenyu, Tian Lihe, Huang Tieliang, Yin Xiaoxiao, Feng Baohua, Tong Shouben, Wei Wenhua, Jin Wensheng, and others were invited to perform at the "Beijing Xiangsheng Conference" founded by Guo Degang.
In 1998, Fan Zhenyu began to praise Guo Degang, cooperated for four years, and performed traditional works such as "Miscellaneous Singing" and "White Affairs Society"; and accepted Guo Degang as a righteous son.
On November 17, 2008, Fan Zhenyu died in Tianjin.
Fan Zhenyu has left many classic character images, such as "universal glue", "two his fathers", "three bangzi", "sitting on the ground bubble", etc., and created a number of new post-break words, such as:

Fan Zhenyu successively accepted 13 apprentices, namely Zhao Jinsheng, Teng Shengxiang, Guo Boliang, He Shiming, Peng Hua, Yu Zhiyuan, Wang Chuanlin, Zhang Deqi, Liu Chunshan, Cong Bo, Ma Tengxiang, Gao Feng, and Yang Junjie.
In addition, in front of Fan Zhenyu's spiritual hall, the master brother Zhao Jinsheng took three more apprentices on behalf of the master, namely Shi Xiaojun, Liu Xuecheng and Bi Hongqiang.

On December 27 last year, the Crosstalk Art Exchange Seminar and Commemorative Performance to Commemorate the 93rd Anniversary of Fan Zhenyu's Birth was held in Wuqing, Tianjin. This activity was planned and organized by Fan Zhenyu's apprentices Shi Xiaojun, He Shiming and others.
