In the Intangible Cultural Heritage Room of Zhumeng Town, Suyu District, Suqian City, Yuan Yaohui is handcrafting dragon kites with several masters. Only to see them wrap bamboo strips into a circle of uniform size, and then glue the non-woven fabric with the word "Fu" written on it to the bamboo circle little by little.
Yuan Yaohui, president of the Suqian Kite Association, introduced that sticking the cloth to it and flattening it can hold a little wind, and when the kite flies, it can run up.
The glued bamboo circles are strung together with cotton thread, and the body of the dragon kite is ready. Next, we have to make the faucet part. The masters first made the large frame of the dragon head with bamboo strips, and in order to make the dragon head vivid, they also used bamboo to tie out details such as the dragon's eyebrows and beard.
Yuan Yaohui told reporters that he has been making handmade kites for more than 40 years. In 2010, Yuan Yaohui and several like-minded kite enthusiasts jointly established the Kite Association to make kites together and often participate in kite competitions across the country. Now, in addition to making kites to participate in the competition, he and his partners will also bring kite culture into the community and into the campus, so that more people can understand and fall in love with handmade kites and pass on the traditional culture.
