Euro NCAP 2022 first test results are released BMW 2 Series turned out to be at the bottom

I believe that all car owners are very concerned about the safety of the vehicle. Just recently, Euro NCAP (European Union New Car Safety Evaluation Association) announced the crash test results of the first batch of tested new models in 2022, and of the 5 models tested, 4 of them received the highest rating of 5 stars, and only 1 model received a 4-star rating, and the overall performance was very good.

Euro NCAP scored for this test

The first five models tested in the new year are the Renault Megane E-Tech, Lexus NX, new Volkswagen Polo, new Volkswagen Taigo and BMW 2 Series. The first four models all received 5-star ratings, with only the BMW 2 Series receiving 4 stars. In terms of specific models, the Renault Mega E-Tech is a significant improvement over the Renault Zoe that received sporadic results last December. It received an overall 5-star rating of 85% for adult protection, 88% for child protection, 65% for vulnerable road users and 79% for safety assistance.

The Lexus NX, built on the same TNGA platform as the Toyota RAV4, achieved very good results in tests (83% for adult protection, 87% for child protection, 83% for vulnerable road users, and 91% for safety assistance), but EuroNCAP said that Lexus engineers did not provide them with all the technical information related to vehicle testing, giving them the impression of being careless, which is unusual for the always rigorous Toyota brand.

Thanks to the addition of central airbags and better ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), Volkswagen's two models, the New Polo and Taigo, also achieved good results, with both cars scoring 5 stars. BMW, also from Germany, ranked at the bottom of the test, and although the automatic braking system performed well in the basic scenes of cars and pedestrians, the performance of the automatic braking system was "limited" when cyclists crossed and turned, so it did not score well in the two tests of vulnerable road users and safety assistance, only 67% and 64%, and finally received a four-star rating.
