Do you really know? Two key points of a guided course

Training Professional Sharing No. 40

More and more trainers are experiencing the following issues:

Their own experience, young trainees do not buy it

Their own lectures, senior students disdain to listen

Either the question is cold, or the scene is out of control

……

How can this situation be broken?

Don't worry, guided classes are here to help!

So what is a guided course? And how about a guided course? This article comes one by one.

First, what is a guided course

1. What is bootstrapping

According to the International Institute for Guidance (INFAC), "Guidance is an art and a science that helps groups to discuss and make decisions more effectively." Guide and improve the quality of interaction between people and groups, so that it is more focused on results. ”

Specific to training, the essence of guidance is participation.

2. What is a guided course

Guided courses are based on accurate demand research, tailor-made course content and learning activities for students, and achieve training goals through students' participation.

From this definition, it can be seen that accurate demand research is a prerequisite for a guided curriculum.

If this precondition is missing, the subsequent practices may only be the trainer's self-congratulation in order to show off the skills, and it is difficult to arouse the enthusiasm of the trainees.

Many trainers are very confused: I have added questions, group discussions, games, competitions, etc. to the course, and also used tools and methods such as sticky notes, large white paper and visual elements, but after experiencing the early hilarity, there will still be many common problems: interaction and participation are not very helpful to the training effect, the participants are not active, the course is overtime...

These problems arise from the fact that they do not know what a guided course is, and even think that some guided tools and methods are used in the course, which is a guided course.

Second, the two key points of the guided curriculum

There are two key points in the guided curriculum: the outline becomes the problem, and the teaching becomes the participation.

Two key points of a guided course

1. The outline becomes a problem

Syllabus problems are generated by translating the content of the course syllabus into questions, triggering thinking, discussion and participation of participants.

For example, in my "Public Expression and Teaching Methods" training, the warm field and the content of the course outline are transformed into questions by asking questions, and the world coffee method is adopted.

Through four rounds of questions, from others to themselves, from life to work, and then from the students to themselves, layer by layer, the content I want to talk about will be transformed into the content of the students' thinking and output.

This approach not only mobilizes the enthusiasm of the trainees to participate, but also triggers the trainees to think, deepens the course content, and is better than the trainer's simple teaching effect.

2. Teaching becomes participation

Teaching becomes participation, and what changes is not only two words, but also the change of the subject. The main body of the lecture is the trainer, and the main body of participation is the trainee.

Such a change reflects the two core concepts of the "Problem Tree Curriculum Development Model": beginning with the end and centering on the student.

On the one hand, whether the training is effective is presented through what the trainees have learned after training, and the main body of the learning is the trainees. The trainer's wonderful personal show in the course is not very helpful for the use of the trainees after training. Therefore, the stage in the course must be returned to the participants.

On the other hand, by providing a stage and opportunity for students to express and show themselves, we mobilize the enthusiasm of students for learning, stimulate everyone's wisdom, and lay the foundation for applying what they have learned.

In summary, the essence of guidance is participation. Guided courses are based on accurate demand surveys, tailor-made course content and learning activities for students, and achieve training goals through students' active participation. There are two key points in the guided curriculum: the outline becomes the problem, and the teaching becomes the participation.
