During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, many international friends, as non-Communists, participated in China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, and Lin Mike was one of them.

He was originally a teacher at a university in China, but when he saw the cruelty of war, he did underground work for the Eighth Route Army in the fallen Peiping.

During his life in China, Lin Maxe met his wife Li Xiaoli, the two fell in love and soon married, after pearl harbor, Lin Mike fled Beiping with his wife, and finally went to Yan'an until the victory of the War of Resistance.

Lin Michael, born in 1910, was born into a family of scholars, his father was the president of Oxford University, and in 1936, Lin Mike graduated from Oxford University, a graduate of Oxford University's trial tutor system.

It just so happened that Oxford University and China's Yenching University reached an agreement, Oxford University sent teachers to help Yenching University to try out a new teaching system, and Lin Mike became one of the elected.

Before coming to China, Oxford University sent Lin Michael to the United States for a year of further study, and in the summer of 1937, Lin Mike took a ship across the ocean and embarked on a journey to China.

At that time, it coincided with the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in China, and Lin Mike was a young man, and he was very uneasy after hearing about it on the way there.

At that time, Bethune, who came to China to aid the anti-Japanese resistance, happened to be on this ship, and the two talked by chance while walking on the deck, and learned that the other party had come to aid China, and the two quickly became acquainted and became friends.

When Lin Maike learned that Bethune had participated in the Spanish anti-fascist war and was about to go to North China to resist Japan, his heart instantly ignited a sense of admiration for Bethune.

The two also agreed that after the two men were on board, they would try their best to reunite in the anti-Japanese base area in North China, and after that, Bethune took a boat to Hong Kong, went to Yan'an after going to Hankou, and Lin Mike went from Tianjin to Beiping.

After Lin Mike entered Yenching University, he lived in the apartment of President Stuart Leiden, and when he was responsible for the trial tutor system, Lin Mai chose eight tutor students, of which the only female classmate, Li Xiaoli, became Lin Mike's lifelong partner.

In 1938, this summer, Lin Mike went to the Jin-Cha-Ji base for the first time, where he was reunited with Bethune and also met Nie Rongzhen and many anti-Japanese generals.

When Lin Mai saw many soldiers fighting the enemy with rudimentary weapons, his heart was shocked by these brave soldiers, and from that moment on, Lin Mai ke made up his mind to make a contribution to China's resistance against Japan.

Because medicines and communication equipment were scarce in our army at that time, Lin Mike decided to start from here.

At that time, Japan's relations with Britain and the United States were good, and as a foreigner, Lin Mike also had many rights; he frequently traveled to Shanghai and Chongqing, purchased a large number of medicines, and then tried to contact comrades in the base areas to send medicines and communication equipment to the Eighth Route Army.

In the power plant of Yenching University, there is a connector who is secretly in contact with Lin Mike, who is ostensibly a worker in the power plant, but is actually an underground worker.

In the autumn of 1938, when Yenching University opened, Lin Mike worked as a teacher during the day and engaged in radio radios at night and in his spare time, during which time he had more and more frequent contact with his student Li Xiaoli.

Born in Taiyuan, Li Xiaoli, a native of Shanxi, was admitted to Peking School in 1935 and then to Yenching University two years later, thus becoming a student of Lin Mike.

During this period, because Lin Mike had been tinkering with radios, this also aroused Li Xiaoli's curiosity, and At this time, Li Xiaoli did not know that this was a communication facility made by Lin Maiwei for the base area.

Many times, when Lin Maike purchased drugs for the Eighth Route Army, in order not to be discovered by the enemy, he took off the packaging after buying the drugs, and then wrote down the dosage and efficacy of the drugs by hand.

Radiocommunication training courses conducted by Lin Meike

Sometimes when the workload is heavy, Lin Mike invites Li Xiaoli to help and translate the text on the medicine into Chinese, although she does not understand what Lin Mike wants to do, but Li Xiaoli vaguely feels that Lin Mai is not a bad person.

In 1939, Li Xiaoli's brother, who worked at a bank, went to Chongqing to work, and her parents also moved to live in front of Yenching University, and it was at this time that Lin Mike told her his secret.

It was late one night, when the two were busy in the studio, Lin Mike suddenly said such a sentence: "Tomorrow I will go to the anti-Japanese base area." ”

Li Xiaoli was a little surprised, and then worried about his safety, she asked out, "That's too dangerous, does Mrs. Lin know?" ”

Lin Mike replied with a smile: "I am not married, I am only 29 years old this year." ”

Next, Lin Mike had a long conversation with Li Xiaoli, telling him about his meeting with Bethune and that he had been delivering medicine for the Eighth Route Army.

Lin Mike's confession made Li Xiaoli a little overwhelmed, but when he heard that he was going to go to the base area the next day, Li Xiaoli was extremely worried in his heart, and in the early morning of July 11, Li Xiaoli worriedly sent Lin Mike and others away from Yenching University.

This year, there was a major flood in North China, until the beginning of the school in September, Lin Mike had no news at all, Li Xiaoli was very worried, and had to go to Principal Situ to help contact Lin Mike.

It was not until November that Lin Mike returned to Yenching University, and the first thing he did when he returned to school, Lin Mike found Li Xiaoli to help her translate a batch of drugs into Chinese name, because the batch of drugs was about to be sent to the base area.

A foreigner who was able to risk his life to help the Eighth Route Army resist Japan deeply touched Li Xiaoli with this bravery and enthusiasm, and during the secret work of the two, they gradually developed different feelings.

On May 24, 1941, Lin Mike made a major decision to propose to Li Xiaoli by the lake, and Li Xiaoli was touched by him, and she also looked forward to this day for a long time.

On June 25, Li Xiaoli got her graduation certificate, and the next day she married Lin Mike, and the two held a grand wedding on campus, after which the couple spent three days honeymooning in Shanxi.

After that, the two threw themselves into the work of supporting the anti-Japanese resistance, Stuart Redden knew their work, but never interfered, the three often met, had a very good relationship, and occasionally ate at the same table.

When doing underground work, Lin Max has two main tasks.

1. Purchase of medicines and communication equipment from Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Second, in order to improve the communication conditions in the base areas, a number of radio transceivers have been installed.

When doing the equipment work, Lin Max needed a power supply, but the school would lose power at eleven o'clock at night, which also greatly affected Lin Mike's work, until a music professor from the United States returned to China for a vacation, and Lin Mike moved into his home with his wife, and there were more working hours.

The house they moved into was called Fan House, there was a large lake near the house, and the remote location was very suitable for Lin Mike to work, and Lin Mai Ke promised to install radios for the guerrillas in three locations, so his work was busier.

After the July 7 Incident, the withdrawal of the Twenty-ninth Army, which was fighting against the enemy, was too hasty, and some of the military communication equipment was left near Pingjin, because this batch of equipment was too important, and the leaders of our army entrusted the task of transferring the equipment to Lin Mike.

After discussion, the supplies were first transferred from the Eighth Route Army to the Italian Concession, and then, with the help of Lin Mike and a staff member of the US Embassy, the supplies were packed into six boxes and handed over to the US barracks in Tianjin, and then transported by the US sailors to the US Embassy in Beiping.

Finally, Lin Max was responsible for transporting the supplies to the southern land and handing them over to the warriors who came to the joint.

After Receiving this batch of supplies, Lin Mike immediately checked with his wife, and after confirming that there was no mistake, he drove to Xishan by car at about 4 p.m. one day, and finally met with the connector at the temple gate near the hot spring in Xishan.

Because Lin Mai was a foreigner, the Japanese troops stationed at the hot spring simply looked at his documents and let him go.

The car drove smoothly to the door of the small temple, six peasant-dressed men and Lin Mike spoke to each other, and six boxes of supplies were smoothly handed over.

Soon, the Mid-Autumn Festival came, and Lin Mike and his wife ushered in a new task, they borrowed Stuart Leiden's car and sent away the remaining supplies of the Twenty-ninth Army.

In order to prevent accidents, Lin Mike also prepared a lot of food and winter clothing, in order to prevent them from eating and wearing when they fled into the mountains after the failure of the joint, and they would not starve to death.

On a passing through the hot springs of Xishan, with the last smooth passage, Lin Mike was in a relaxed mood, who knew that it was not far to go out, they were blocked by a group of Japanese puppet troops.

The underground workers disguised as plainclothes in the car were pulled down and beaten by the puppet army.

Lin Mike quickly took out his passport and said that they had gone to the mountain to admire the moon, which saved themselves, and after that, several people met with eight guerrillas and smoothly handed over the remaining supplies.

This experience made Lin Mike tremble with fear, but he never gave up delivering supplies for our army, including his wife.

On December 2, six days before the outbreak of the Pacific War, Lin Mike and his wife went again to deliver supplies, using Stu Leiden's car, and among the guerrillas who came to the street this time, there was a man named Xiao Zaitian, who at this time learned that he was the younger brother of an underground worker at the Yanda Power Plant.

The brothers both came out to participate in the anti-Japanese resistance, Lin Maxe admired them greatly, and later Xiao Zaitian was arrested and tortured by the enemy, and it was Lin Mike who spent a thousand pieces to save Xiao Zaitian, and this revolutionary hero lived to the victory of the anti-Japanese resistance and lived a very long life.

Before the Pacific War, Stuart Had a premonition that something was wrong, because once the war broke out, the foreigners who remained in China were likely to be arrested and imprisoned by the Japanese.

So Stuart Raden gathered all the foreigners and began to discuss the issue of where to stay.

Some of the young people said that they wanted to go to the base area and would rather die than be prisoners of the Japanese army, while the rest held the expectation that Britain and the United States would win, and even if they were imprisoned by the Japanese army, they would soon be released.

At the end of the meeting, fifteen foreign young people strengthened their determination, and they planned to work in the anti-Japanese base areas and contribute their strength to the anti-Japanese resistance.

On December 7, the situation was still unclear, Lin Mike estimated that the situation would change in a week, so he decided to evacuate to the base area around the 12th, pretending to be a foreigner who was traveling.

In the early morning of the 8th, after Li Xiaoli listened to the news of an English radio station, he immediately woke up Lin Mike, and then, Lin Meier received the news that the Japanese army had attacked Pearl Harbor, and he had a premonition that Yanda could not stay any longer.

At this time, Lin Mike was already ready, he went out with a pistol, drove StuArt Reddy's car to pick up his colleagues Ben William and his wife, and also told Li Xiaoli to follow him.

Because he was too nervous, Li Xiaoli forgot to take the money and jewelry that was placed in the drawer after informing his parents, but the radio parts and some food containing two large boxes followed Lin Mike and his wife closely.

After that, Lin Mike drove his wife and colleagues away from the East School Gate in a car, and it was exactly around 8:30 at that time, and the car went straight to the entrance of the Black Dragon Pond Temple, because he was afraid that the car was too conspicuous, Lin Mike and others abandoned the car to walk, and hired three farmers to pick up luggage.

Who knew that when the peasants walked to the village, because they were afraid of the Japanese army's search, they did not agree to go forward, and Lin Mike and a few people were suddenly in trouble, and they could not contact the base area, nor could they turn around and go back.

At the critical moment, Lin Mike suddenly remembered that there was a French doctor in Bei'anhe, Pei Xiye, who had treated the Eighth Route Army, and if he went to him, maybe he would help.

So several people immediately went to the French doctor and arrived at his villa at about three o'clock in the afternoon, but unfortunately the doctor had entered the city three months earlier.

The housekeeper in charge of entertaining several people was terrified when he heard that they were going to the base area, and Lin Mike explained for a long time before the housekeeper agreed to find them a donkey to pull luggage and find a farmer to lead the way.

When it was almost dark, several people arrived at Guan'erling in the deep mountains, and a village chief in the mountain was ostensibly doing things for the puppet army, but was actually a member of the Eighth Route Army, and after hearing that Lin Mike was also doing things for the Eighth Route Army, the village chief sent several people to Longquan Temple overnight for temporary refuge.

In the temple, Lin Mike and others hid for two whole days, and at this moment, Li Xiaoli found that he forgot to bring a lot of things, such as money and jewelry, and even forgot to wear the scarf and gloves for the winter.

Two days later, people from the base area picked up Lin Mike and others, and on December 23, lin Mike learned that shortly after they left, the Japanese army broke into Yenching University to arrest him.

On the 26th, another soldier surnamed Liu came to meet him, and he took Lin Mike and four people to the base area, they broke through the Japanese blockade line, climbed over the mountain, and the road was very difficult, because it was cold and snowy, and Lin Mike's beard was frozen.

It was not until the night of December 31 that Lin Mike arrived at Shawk's Pingxi Headquarters, and after the four of them stayed temporarily, they all became glorious anti-Japanese fighters of the Eighth Route Army, and Lin Mike also repaired and installed a telegraph machine for the troops.

In order to make more contributions to the troops, Lin Mike and his wife set off to Nie Rongzhen's headquarters again, because they had been here before, so Lin Mike was very familiar with Nie Rongzhen and Zhu De, and they could also be regarded as good friends.

During this period, Lin Mike also opened a radio training class in the army to train many talents for our army, and Li Xiaoli opened an English class, at that time, Li Xiaoli was pregnant and had a child, but did not hinder the work.

In September of the same year, the Japanese army attacked, and for safety reasons, Li Xiaoli had to go to the mountains with a big belly to prepare for production.

Fortunately, Li Xiaoli had good luck and gave birth to her eldest daughter safely, and because of the urgency of the situation, the couple turned to the Headquarters of Lu Zhengcao of the Jizhong Military Region.

Lin Mike's work here is still to build radio and set up radio training courses, while Li Xiaoli continues to teach English.

In March of the same year, Lin Meike fell ill with smallpox, and after twelve days of bedriding, the base area was bombed by the enemy, and he lay on a stretcher and moved around, during which time Lin Mike had been trying to send telegrams to Chongqing and Yan'an, trying to contact other base areas.

It is a pity that because of the intentional interference of all parties, Lin Mike has never been able to contact other bases.

In order to survive and supplement the bodies of other soldiers, Li Xiaoli began to farm and raise chickens during his spare time, and around June, there were constantly international friends rushing to Yan'an, which also allowed Lin Mike to see the dawn of the victory of the anti-Japanese resistance.

In March 1944, Lin Mike's family followed the cavalry battalion to Yan'an, and on May 15 they arrived successfully.

The self-taught Lin Mike played a major role in Yan'an, and he used the existing equipment to build a large transceiver, which sent and received news in Yan'an, so that the whole world could hear the news of China's resistance to Japanese aggression in time.

In June 1944, Chinese and foreign journalists came to visit Yan'an, including an old acquaintance of Lin Mike, in mid-July, the US military group also came to Yan'an, Lin Mike received orders to receive the other party, he was surprised to find that the person who came was an old acquaintance.

Since leaving Yenching University, Lin Mike has broken off contact with many old friends, and now that he meets again, his heart is full of emotion and surprise.

In January 1945, Li Xiaoli gave birth to a son in Yan'an Hospital, named James, and she also lost her job teaching English, after the school was closed, Li Xiaoli took the child at home, and at this moment Lin Mike went to work at Xinhua News Agency.

As the situation developed, the trend of Japan's defeat became more and more obvious, and in August 1945, Japan surrendered, and China's War of Resistance Against Japan finally ushered in victory.

However, Lin Mike did not rejoice for long, the civil war began, and after Chairman Mao went to Chongqing for negotiations, Lin Mike only felt extremely tired.

He witnessed China's War of Resistance Against Japan and was bent on peace, but the current situation made him feel a lot of emotion.

So, Lin Maxke made a decision that he would return to England with his wife and children.
