Before coming to China, Oxford University sent Lin Michael to the United States for a year of further study, and in the summer of 1937, Lin Mike took a ship across the ocean and embarked on a journey to China.

When Lin Maike learned that Bethune had participated in the Spanish anti-fascist war and was about to go to North China to resist Japan, his heart instantly ignited a sense of admiration for Bethune.

The two also agreed that after the two men were on board, they would try their best to reunite in the anti-Japanese base area in North China, and after that, Bethune took a boat to Hong Kong, went to Yan'an after going to Hankou, and Lin Mike went from Tianjin to Beiping.

In the autumn of 1938, when Yenching University opened, Lin Mike worked as a teacher during the day and engaged in radio radios at night and in his spare time, during which time he had more and more frequent contact with his student Li Xiaoli.

On June 25, Li Xiaoli got her graduation certificate, and the next day she married Lin Mike, and the two held a grand wedding on campus, after which the couple spent three days honeymooning in Shanxi.
After that, the two threw themselves into the work of supporting the anti-Japanese resistance, Stuart Redden knew their work, but never interfered, the three often met, had a very good relationship, and occasionally ate at the same table.

After discussion, the supplies were first transferred from the Eighth Route Army to the Italian Concession, and then, with the help of Lin Mike and a staff member of the US Embassy, the supplies were packed into six boxes and handed over to the US barracks in Tianjin, and then transported by the US sailors to the US Embassy in Beiping.

The brothers both came out to participate in the anti-Japanese resistance, Lin Maxe admired them greatly, and later Xiao Zaitian was arrested and tortured by the enemy, and it was Lin Mike who spent a thousand pieces to save Xiao Zaitian, and this revolutionary hero lived to the victory of the anti-Japanese resistance and lived a very long life.

Some of the young people said that they wanted to go to the base area and would rather die than be prisoners of the Japanese army, while the rest held the expectation that Britain and the United States would win, and even if they were imprisoned by the Japanese army, they would soon be released.
At the end of the meeting, fifteen foreign young people strengthened their determination, and they planned to work in the anti-Japanese base areas and contribute their strength to the anti-Japanese resistance.
On December 7, the situation was still unclear, Lin Mike estimated that the situation would change in a week, so he decided to evacuate to the base area around the 12th, pretending to be a foreigner who was traveling.
In the early morning of the 8th, after Li Xiaoli listened to the news of an English radio station, he immediately woke up Lin Mike, and then, Lin Meier received the news that the Japanese army had attacked Pearl Harbor, and he had a premonition that Yanda could not stay any longer.

After that, Lin Mike drove his wife and colleagues away from the East School Gate in a car, and it was exactly around 8:30 at that time, and the car went straight to the entrance of the Black Dragon Pond Temple, because he was afraid that the car was too conspicuous, Lin Mike and others abandoned the car to walk, and hired three farmers to pick up luggage.

At the critical moment, Lin Mike suddenly remembered that there was a French doctor in Bei'anhe, Pei Xiye, who had treated the Eighth Route Army, and if he went to him, maybe he would help.
So several people immediately went to the French doctor and arrived at his villa at about three o'clock in the afternoon, but unfortunately the doctor had entered the city three months earlier.

When it was almost dark, several people arrived at Guan'erling in the deep mountains, and a village chief in the mountain was ostensibly doing things for the puppet army, but was actually a member of the Eighth Route Army, and after hearing that Lin Mike was also doing things for the Eighth Route Army, the village chief sent several people to Longquan Temple overnight for temporary refuge.

On the 26th, another soldier surnamed Liu came to meet him, and he took Lin Mike and four people to the base area, they broke through the Japanese blockade line, climbed over the mountain, and the road was very difficult, because it was cold and snowy, and Lin Mike's beard was frozen.

In order to make more contributions to the troops, Lin Mike and his wife set off to Nie Rongzhen's headquarters again, because they had been here before, so Lin Mike was very familiar with Nie Rongzhen and Zhu De, and they could also be regarded as good friends.

Fortunately, Li Xiaoli had good luck and gave birth to her eldest daughter safely, and because of the urgency of the situation, the couple turned to the Headquarters of Lu Zhengcao of the Jizhong Military Region.

In March of the same year, Lin Meike fell ill with smallpox, and after twelve days of bedriding, the base area was bombed by the enemy, and he lay on a stretcher and moved around, during which time Lin Mike had been trying to send telegrams to Chongqing and Yan'an, trying to contact other base areas.
It is a pity that because of the intentional interference of all parties, Lin Mike has never been able to contact other bases.

In January 1945, Li Xiaoli gave birth to a son in Yan'an Hospital, named James, and she also lost her job teaching English, after the school was closed, Li Xiaoli took the child at home, and at this moment Lin Mike went to work at Xinhua News Agency.
As the situation developed, the trend of Japan's defeat became more and more obvious, and in August 1945, Japan surrendered, and China's War of Resistance Against Japan finally ushered in victory.
However, Lin Mike did not rejoice for long, the civil war began, and after Chairman Mao went to Chongqing for negotiations, Lin Mike only felt extremely tired.
He witnessed China's War of Resistance Against Japan and was bent on peace, but the current situation made him feel a lot of emotion.
So, Lin Maxke made a decision that he would return to England with his wife and children.

On November 7, 1945, Lin Mai ke returned to England with Li Xiaoli and a pair of children.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Mr. and Mrs. Lin Maike returned to China several times, and returned to Visit Yan'an and other places in the War of Resistance.

On February 13, 1994, Lin Maike died of illness at home at the age of 84, and in the same year that her husband died, Li Xiaoli returned to China in the autumn and settled in Beijing to enjoy his old age.
In 2003, because the elderly Li Xiaoli was left unattended, she was taken back to the United States by her granddaughter, and one of her children had long since died.
On April 25, 2010, Li Xiaoli died in Washington, D.C., at the age of 87.
