On April 18, 2021, Dr. Zhang Yu, a Zhihu user who claimed to be a physician on oncology at Peking University Third Hospital, posted on the platform exposing the "shady curtain of tumor treatment", in which Zhang Yu pointed out in a long article that a considerable proportion of tumor patients spent unnecessarily expensive expenses, and a certain proportion of patients died because of irregular or even incorrect diagnosis and treatment. Zhang Yu cited a tumor patient who had lost both money and money, who unfortunately died after receiving treatment from Lu Wei, deputy chief physician of Xinhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and owed more than 100,000 yuan in debt. The patient died because of Lu Wei's "10-fold increase in cost and earlier" treatment plan, which included abandoning the lower-cost treatment plan in favor of a "strange second-line treatment plan with a sharply increased cost" and ineffective, expensive and illegal NKT treatment. Zhang Yu called such a diagnosis and treatment plan a typical excessive medical behavior.

On April 27, the National Health Commission announced the preliminary results of the "cancer treatment shady curtain": the treatment basically met the norms.
On May 24, the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission publicly issued an administrative penalty against Dr. Lu Wei for "failing to fill in medical records and materials in accordance with regulations, and failing to fulfill the obligation to inform in accordance with regulations in the process of providing medical and health services." According to the penalty decision, Lu Wei violated the first paragraph of Article 13 of the Regulations on the Prevention and Handling of Medical Disputes and the first paragraph of Article 15 of the Regulations on the Prevention and Handling of Medical Disputes, and the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission imposed a fine of RMB30,000 on the basis of Article 47 (2) of the Regulations on the Prevention and Handling of Medical Disputes and Article 47 (4) of the Regulations on the Prevention and Handling of Medical Disputes.
