Metro design experts suggest that the planned Fosuiguan intercity should consider the construction according to the scale of 6-car trains, and use 3 (or 4) and 6-car trains to run mixed at different stages of operation, which can save civil construction and operating costs, facilitate high-density departures, and are more suitable for the operation mode of metroization.

The West Ring Road of the Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Road is located in the northeast of Foshan City and the northwest of Guangzhou City. The line starts from Foshan West Railway Station, passes through Shishan Town, Lishui Town, Nanhai District, Foshan City, Tanbu Town, Huadu District, Guangzhou City, Xiuquan Street and Jianggao Town, Baiyun District, and ends at Guangzhou North Railway Station. The length of the line is 47 kilometers, of which 16.5 kilometers are in Guangzhou and 30.5 kilometers in Foshan.
After the operation of the project, a total of 9 stations were involved, namely Foshan West Railway Station, Shishan East Railway Station, Dalan Station, Guanyao South Railway Station, Hegui Station, Tanbu Station, Huadugang Station, Shenshan North Railway Station and Guangzhou North Railway Station. Foshan West Railway Station and Guangzhou North Railway Station have been put into operation, and the project only includes 7 new intermediate stations, of which Shishan East Station is an underground station and the remaining 6 stations are elevated stations.

In the future, the Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Road will be connected to a number of Pearl River Delta intercity lines. It can be seen from the train operation plan that on the track corridor of the Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line, a variety of trains will run, including: Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line, Suiguan-Shenzhen Intercity, Fozhao Intercity, Foguan-Hui intercity, Guangzhou North via Pazhou to Huizhou Intercity Train. This move can realize the networking, interconnection, unified operation and resource sharing of the regional rail transit system, and maximize the overall benefits of the passenger flow of the intercity rail transit network.
Earlier last month, the main person in charge of the Guangzhou Metro said that the management of the Pearl River Delta Intercity Company had been transferred to the Guangzhou Metro. In the future, the above-mentioned intercity railways (at least most of them) will be operated by the Guangzhou Metro, and the interchange between the intercity and the subway will be smoother. For example, at Guangzhou South Railway Station, the interchange between Metro Line 22 and Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line and Foguan Intercity is underground, and the walking distance is like changing to other subways.

Correspondingly, different capacity arrangements are used at different stages. In the early days, the Guangzhou-Foshan West Ring Road opened a 4-car train, the recent Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line (the whole line) adopted the mixed mode of 4-car and 8-car trains, and the long-term Guangzhou-Foshan Ring Line (the whole line) all adopted 8-car trains.
The practice of small group and long-term large group in the early stage is more in line with the passenger flow of the line than the "one-step in place" large group, reducing waste and making the operation scheduling more flexible. At present, the average daily passenger traffic of Metro Line 18 is less than 100,000 passengers, and there is a large capacity redundancy of the 8-car train. The planned Fosuiguan Intercity (formerly known as Guangzhou Line 28) was also initially intended to use an 8-car train similar to a high-speed railway.
