The Museum of The Future officially opened to the public on February 22nd! This is a superstructure that Dubai has unlocked to the world after the world's largest and highest Ferris wheel, known as the "Dubai Eye", was put into use on October 21, 2021.
Located in a prime location adjacent to the Emirates Tower, the project is 78 metres high and covers an area of 17,000 square metres, including 6 exhibition floors and 1 executive floor, 3 podiums and a dining platform with auditorium, retail, parking and service facilities.
The Museum of the Future cost $136 million to build and was designed by Villa Design. Its unique oval ring-like appearance blends art and metaphor, shaped like the "Dan Phoenix Eye", and the Ferris wheel "Dubai Eye" constitutes the spiritual symbol of Dubai's "looking at the present, looking at the future".
The entire building consists of three main parts: a green hill, a building and a hollow part of the building. Emerald green hillsides symbolize the earth, the gleaming superstructure represents humanity, and the oval voids in the superstructure represent innovation.
The façade of the building is covered with Arabic calligraphy and is a poem written by Emirati artist Mattar bin Lahej on the theme of Dubai's future. The flowing points, lines and surfaces combined with the peculiar shapes not only show the human passion for art and creation, but also give the whole building a mysterious and sci-fi visual feeling.
The museum not only creates a beacon of vision and art, but also sets new benchmarks for innovation. The design team developed new parametric modeling tools for the interior steel structure of the "digital growth" building; the curtain walls were extremely smooth, using the assembly technology of the aerospace industry, seamlessly assembling 1,024 unique stainless steel and fiberglass fusion panels; in order to ensure construction capabilities and obtain LEED Platinum certification, Killa partnered with BuroHappold, who provided engineering services, and BAM International, which provided construction services, using BIM 4D sequencing (4D). sequencing in BIM) and visual reality capture technology.
The museum has been rated as one of the most complex construction projects ever built, with no columns inside, a free-standing double spiral staircase, full use of energy and water recovery technology and integrated renewable energy in the building, symbolizing the future with innovative design principles and implementation methods.
Unlike other museums that focus on urban history, the core of the future museum is the exploration of the future, leading people to unlock the development trend of a future city in advance through a series of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and interactive installations.
As gulf states seek to diversify their economies, the Museum of the Future is the latest in a series of cultural investments. The building was named one of the most beautiful museums in the world by National Geographic. The project puts the UAE at the centre of its imagined future.
