Peng Qinghua, secretary of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, discusses Tibetan calligraphy with creator Basong Deng Zhu

When Secretary Peng Qinghua visited the exhibition and saw the creative Tibetan zodiac sign, he said: "This zodiac sign is very creative and vivid! Then he asked the creator, Basson Dengzhu, "What are the tools for writing Tibetan?" Teacher Basson Deng Zhu took out a bamboo pen to make an introduction. The secretary asked Mr. Deng Zhu about his creative methods with concern, and discussed whether there was room for improvement in the bamboo pen without absorbing ink. Secretary Peng picked up a bamboo pen, imitated the writing on the creative zodiac characters, studied the strokes with Basong Deng Zhu, and instructed that the Tibetan calligraphy culture must be carried forward.

Basson Deng Zhu Tibetan Calligraphy Design Work "Zodiac Signs"

Basson Deng Zhu said that from the creation of the first "Cow" to the completion of the last "Dog", it took almost four years to improve the use of pens and adjust the shape. Because I am busy with running, there are also creative bottlenecks, such as the shape of the puppy has not been flexible and vivid. Earlier this year, Sister Zhu of Shanghai Business School brought inspiration, and she has many related stories with dogs, which inspired Basong Deng Zhu. Of the 12 works, "Dog" is also the one with the most stories. Basson Deng Zhu said that the idea of "Cow" came from the yak dance of Ganzi, delving into ancient Tibetan glyphs, and finally combining the Ugin body commonly used today to form the final shape of the cow. After the first work was formed, I had the idea of creating the zodiac, and I was honored to complete the twelve works.

In the interview, Basson Deng Zhu said that Tibetan calligraphy is hard pen calligraphy, and there are currently more than 180 calligraphy styles. As a Teacher of Tibetan Calligraphy and the initiator of the National Tibetan Calligraphy Day, I hope that more people can appreciate the beauty contained in the twists and turns of Tibetan calligraphy. In 2017, he published tibetan calligraphy appreciation books, and successively established four calligraphy studios in many places in Tibetan areas, and was determined to inherit and promote Tibetan calligraphy throughout his life, so that more people at home and abroad can know and appreciate the charm of Tibetan calligraphy.
