When will Tesla achieve full self-driving? Always "just next year"

One question Tesla is often asked is when exactly what they claim is "fully autonomous driving" to actually materialize. Some netizens found that Musk's answer to this question is almost the same: about next year.

Recently, some netizens edited clips of Musk's different interviews on YouTube to see how Musk answered this question at different points in time. Among them, as early as 2014, when talking about automatic driving, Musk said at the time that it would come in the next 1 year.

The most talked about was in 2017, when Musk said in public that Level 5 autonomous driving would arrive in a few months. Musk also said that Tesla will show a Tesla Model S driving from New York City to Los Angeles in 2017, without the need for driver interaction.

As a result, Musk's promises at the time did not materialize. In fact, a year later, Musk reiterated that commitment in 2018, which was not fulfilled.

Musk said in 2017: "In November or December of this year, we should be able to drive from a parking lot in California all the way to a parking lot in New York, without touching any human control." Not only that, but Musk said the Model S used for display wouldn't follow a fixed route. Instead, the Model S will dynamically adjust the route based on immediate traffic conditions.

In the same year, Musk said that in 2019, Tesla owners can sleep in the car, wake up and the car will reach its destination.

It's worth noting that the "fully autonomous driving" mentioned here is different from Tesla's existing Autopilot feature. Of course, it is not easy to achieve fully autonomous driving, but seeing Musk's "year after year", people can't help but think that Chen Yongren on the rooftop may not be able to help but complain.
