As the chief medical officer of the Chinese Olympic Committee and the head of the medical core expert group of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, Li Guoping participated in and led the medical security work of the Chinese national team in large-scale international comprehensive games such as the 6th Summer Olympic Games, the 4th Winter Olympic Games, the 1st Youth Olympic Games and the Asian Games. From the time he served as the chief medical officer of the Chinese delegation to the Olympic Games in 2000, to being invited to the IOC Medical Committee as a member of the IOC's Medical Committee after the London Olympic Games in 2013, Li Guoping formed an "indissoluble bond" with the Olympic Games.
