On February 19, Beijing time, the 2022 NBA All-Star Rookie Challenge began in tournament mode for the first time, with Thomas narrowly defeating Vaughsie 50-49 in the first semifinals. Game review
The opening three-pointer missed O'Corro's three-pointer, McDaniels scored five consecutive points from three-pointers and a layup, Tate scored Barry's first point on two free throws, Mobley made two consecutive dunks, and Dosem scored a five-point advantage with a three-point layup. Mobley continued to abuse the basket with a dunk, Hyland hit a layup, Cunningham broke through the 2+1 score, and McDaniels scored four consecutive points to continue to lead by four points. Mobley and Shin Kyung each made up a deduction, O'Corro dunked a three-pointer with Cunningham, and Barry scored a 9-0 rebound of three points. A three-ball shot was hit, Cunningham hit a shot from inside, Barnes hooked up with Henderson hit a shot, and Cunningham and Shin Kyung each returned a three-pointer. Three-pointers from the bottom corner of the three-pointer, Cunningham connected Daniels to the basket, Highland hit a three-pointer, Shin Kyung scored two points on the inside line, and Hyland hit another three-pointer to score five points in a row with the layup.
Barnes scored three points on two free throws and a throw, Payton countered with five points, Okoro dunked back, and Barnes continued to score in mid-range shots. Barry blossomed with a wave of 8-0 offensive rebounds with three points, in which Mobly completed the dunk again, and Barnes returned with a basket. Tate made two free throws and one shot, Cumminga shot to 42-42, Tate made two fouls and one shot, Dosem missed three points, three-ball rebound foul sent Mobley two free throws and one shot. McDaniels hit a three-point shot, Mobley missed consecutive layups, O'Corro missed a dunk in the air, and the three-ball basket surpassed by one point. Cunningham didn't stick to three points, Tate picked up a leaky rebound under the basket, three-point three-pointers didn't stick, and Hyland also missed three points. Cunningham missed the shot, Tate fouled three goals, two free throws and one shot to maintain a 48-48 draw, Tate broke through the difficult pull bar to hit a layup, and finally Barry won over Payton.
