Intel advertises Sapphire Rapids-SP boosted HBM Xeon CPUs that are more than 2x faster than AMD EPYC Milan and Milan-X chips!

Intel announced benchmarking of its upcoming data center products, including HBM-Supercharged Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon CPUs. In Intel's performance PPT, the company compared its upcoming Sapphire Rapids-SP Xeon CPU to HBM's older Ice Lake Xeon Scalable chip and AMD's EPYC Milan/Milan-X CPUs. The workload used here is an OpenFOAM benchmark, specifically computational fluid dynamics testing. Intel says the benchmark was run on pre-production Sapphire Rapids chips, so the final performance data could vary.

In benchmarks, sapphire Rapids-SP non-HBM solutions offer up to 60% performance improvements over Ice Lake-SP, while HBM Xeon solutions provide up to 180% performance improvements. The same is true when comparing the chip to AMD's EPYC Milan product line. Compared to standard Milan, the new Sapphire Rapids-SP chip delivers up to 180% and 150% performance improvement over the recently launched Milan-X series. Of course, this is just a test indicator, Intel did not specify the detailed test equipment, maybe the test is beneficial to Intel? [Melon Eating Masses] [Melon Eating Masses] [Melon Eating Masses]

Intel also compared the performance of its Ponte Vecchio GPU, which should offer up to 160% performance improvement compared to NVIDIA's (Ampere A100) competitive solution. The benchmark used here is the financial services workload measurement. Similarly, no specific information was provided for this benchmark. (Test data from Intel Labs?)
