The 2022 "nine-in-one" county mayoral election in Taiwan will be officially held at the end of the year. According to media reports on the island, in response to the election campaign, the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) set up an inner-party "Election and Nomination Committee" on 16 July, with Chairman Zhu Lilun as the convener, and its members included Hou Youyi, Mayor of New Taipei, Lu Xiuyan, Mayor of Taichung, Han Kuo-yu, former Mayor of Kaohsiung City, Huang Minhui, Xia Liyan, and Lian Shengwen, vice chairmen, and Huang Jianting, secretary general, who were responsible for reviewing and proposing nominations and making arrangements for supplementary elections.
According to a set of polls released by the island, in the high-profile competition for mayors of Taipei, Jiang Wan'an of the Chinese Kuomintang ranked first with 38.5 percent, Chen Shizhong, the head of the island's health department, who was repeatedly named to represent the Green Camp, took the second seat with 31.3 percent, and Huang Shanshan, vice mayor of Taipei City, a member of the People's Party, was only 18.6 percent.
Although the current degree of support lags behind Jiang Wan'an, information on the island shows that various factions within the DPP still seem to be interested in Chen Shizhong's representation of the Green Camp, and in addition to rumors that the "British department" wants to support it, He Zhiwei and Wu Siyao, Taipei residents of the Green Camp who belong to the "Green Friendship Online" and "New Trend Department," have also openly stated that Chen Shizhong is the strongest candidate of the DPP. According to more green camp insiders, the 3 factions have expressed their position to support Chen Shizhong, and even Tsai Ing-wen's feelings about Chen Shizhong are "OK", and internally they have begun to think about finding someone to connect with Chen Shizhong's work.
Chen Shizhong's candidacy was not only recognized by various factions within the Green Camp, but even the Blue Camp expressed "support". In an exclusive interview a few days ago, Lien Shengwen, vice chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang, made it clear that "I most hope that Chen Shizhong will come out to choose." Lian Shengwen pointed out that Chen Shizhong's mistake in epidemic prevention command caused the people on the island to complain bitterly, so "he had better come out to choose the mayor of Taipei, and the citizens of Taipei want to settle accounts with him."
