01 "Breakout" from the city center

For the people in the northwest suburbs of Shanghai, the North Branch of Huashan Hospital, which started construction in November 2009 and was put into use in December 2012, not only fills the gap of the top three hospitals in the region, but also provides a guarantee for the development of the northern part of the city with its rapid development.
Since the beginning of its establishment, the North Branch of Huashan Hospital has clearly defined the functional positioning of "focusing on basic medical care and serving the surrounding people", and has taken the initiative to undertake the tasks of common diseases, multiple disease diagnosis and treatment of residents in Baoshan and surrounding areas, as well as emergency and critical care and referral of difficult diseases. In the past nine years, Huashan Hospital's "ace departments" such as neurosurgery, neurology, infection, and dermatology have opened outpatient clinics and wards in the North Hospital, and the number of medical services has been rising; rheumatology and immunology, nephrology, general surgery, gastroenterology, orthopedics, cardiology, oncology and other traditional advantageous disciplines have taken root at the same time, developed a number of suitable emerging technologies, and cultivated a large number of discipline backbones with excellent medical technology.
As a pioneer in deepening the medical reform in Shanghai, Huashan Hospital North Hospital has carried out a number of innovations and explorations in institutional mechanisms and management models, including promoting regional linkage with party building and joint construction, promoting integration into the community with health; doing a good job in cost control through regular consumable reviews and reagent management platforms; and implementing integrated management of emergency departments and ICU. At the same time, the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of Huashan Hospital, which ranked first in the reputation of rehabilitation medicine specialties in China's hospital rankings, has also experienced a decade-long model of taking the general hospital as the core and hosting and jointly driving the coordinated development of secondary hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals and community health service centers, so that rehabilitation medicine can truly "take off".
In 2006, with the continuous acceleration of Shanghai's construction of an international metropolis, with the strong support of the municipal government, Huashan Hospital was determined to "break through" from the city center and open the first directly subordinate branch in the Biyun International Community - Huashan Hospital Pudong Branch, which was later named Shanghai International Hospital. This is the first and only public foreign-related international hospital in Shanghai, in addition to being equipped with the world's most advanced instruments and equipment, but also from the general hospital to select a group of medical backbones with international medical experience, proficient in multi-Chinese words, in the medical concept, medical process, payment system and other aspects of international standards, not only for foreigners to provide great convenience, but also for the Shanghai World Expo, the Expo and so on to provide medical security, become a "international business card" to enhance the city's soft power.

In April 2021, the National Health Commission issued a document to set up the National Center for Neurological Diseases and the National Center for Infectious Diseases, with Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University as the main body; together with the previously approved National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases, Huashan Hospital became the only public hospital in The country with 3 national medical centers. Among them, the Hongqiao Campus will take the National Neurological Disease Medical Center as a new starting point to cultivate a discipline group based on nervous system diseases, and thus drive rehabilitation, pension and other industries to create a medical ecology.
In June 2018, the Hongqiao Branch of Huashan Hospital, which is close to the Hongqiao Comprehensive Transportation Hub, with 800 approved beds and a construction area of 128,000 square meters, was officially opened. It connects 15 central cities, 55 medium-sized cities and more than 1,000 small towns in the Yangtze River Delta. The Hongqiao Campus concentrates almost all the advantages of Huashan Hospital, and its mission is to undertake the national strategy and build the National Neuroscience Center, the Yangtze River Delta Trauma Medical Center and the Greater Hongqiao Regional Medical Center with the goal of tackling "major diseases and major problems affecting people's health".
With the in-depth construction of "Shanghai Brain Disease Center" and "Shanghai Brain Bank", the first frontier laboratory of brain science of Chen Tianqiao Luo Qianqian Research Institute landed, coupled with the in-depth participation of Fudan University Brain Research Institute, Brain-like Computing, School of Mathematical Sciences and Shanghai Medical College, Huashan Hospital Hongqiao Branch has the world's largest-scale neurosurgical surgery center, neuro-intensive care center, clinical training center, radiotherapy center, and will aim at the national "14th Five-Year Plan" scientific and technological frontier field "brain science and brain-like research". The National Infectious Disease Medical Center, with the Department of Infectious Diseases of Huashan Hospital as the main body, will take the Baoshan Branch of Huashan Hospital, which has just been incorporated, as the space carrier, through the construction of the National Infectious Disease Medical Center Building, to create a basic research center, clinical transformation center, clinical research center, etc. that meet the standards of world-class infectious disease centers, integrate superior resources, conduct in-depth research on the epidemiology, prevention and control strategies of major infectious diseases, and assist the state in establishing a response mechanism and plan system for sudden acute infectious diseases.
