On February 17, Qiao Xiaoguang, adviser to the China Folk Writers Association and professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and his party visited Guo Peizhen, a paper-cutting master, in Jia County, Shaanxi Province. Kang Donglin, member of the Standing Committee of the Jiaxian County CPC Committee and director of the Propaganda Department, accompanied him.
At Guo Peizhen's home, Qiao Xiaoguang inquired in detail about Guo Lao's health and living conditions, and admired the paper-cutting works. Qiao Xiaoguang said that although Elder Guo is ninety years old this year, he still insists on cutting paper and does not quit, and his spirit is precious. A lifelong love of paper-cutting, blood, no regrets, is a great craftsman, his paper-cutting works are well-known at home and abroad. I hope that Elder Guo will take care of his body and spend his old age in peace, and I hope that more people can learn to cut paper and understand paper cutting, and pass on and carry forward this folk art.
Guo Peizhen, a native of Jia County, Shaanxi Province, is a well-known folk art master who has devoted his life to paper-cutting. Since the age of 8, she has been learning paper-cutting with her mother, and has cut out more than 20,000 works of characters, flowers and birds, landscapes, architecture and rural customs, etc., with smooth cuts and unique concepts, condensing a strong loess culture atmosphere. She has participated in many national and international paper-cutting exhibitions and won awards, the All-China Women's Federation awarded her the title of "Chinese Qiaonu", and UNESCO awarded her the honorary title of "Inheritor of Folk Paper-cutting Genius". At present, she is also the inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Shaanxi Province.
