According to historical records, Jiming Temple was founded in the first year of Yongkang in the Western Jin Dynasty (300 years), and is one of the oldest royal temples in Nanjing. Jiming Temple got its name from the Chicken Mingdai on the shore of Xuanwu Lake, and Li Shangyin once wrote in the poem "Southern Dynasty" that "the jade in Xuanwu Lake leaks, and the chicken sings are embroidered back" refers to the chicken singing dai in front of the Jiming Temple. Introduction to the Medicine Stupa
Historically, Jiming Temple has successively had names such as Tongtai Temple, Jingju Temple, Yuanyu Temple, and Fabao Temple, and it was not officially named Jiming Temple until the early years of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty. With the change of dynasties and wars and other reasons, the scale of Jiming Temple has been constantly changing in history, the largest scale, Jiming Temple covers an area of more than 1,000 acres, the temple hall pavilions and terraces as many as more than 30 buildings, is one of the largest temples in Nanjing.

At present, Jiming Temple has Daxiong Treasure Hall, Guanyin Tower, Wei Da Hall, Tibetan Scripture Building, Nianfo Hall, Medicine Master Pagoda, Rouge Well, Jingyang Tower, Bell and Drum Tower and other buildings, which were basically rebuilt since the 1980s, and the most attractive tourists are the Medicine Man Pagoda in the temple. This medicine man pagoda is not the original ancient pagoda, but a new pagoda built in 1991, visitors can climb the pagoda to overlook the beautiful scenery of Jiming Temple and Xuanwu Lake. In October 2019, when I went to visit Jiming Temple, for some reason the Medicine Pagoda was temporarily closed to tourists, so I was unable to climb the pagoda.

Later, after watching the introduction of the Medicine Man Pagoda, I learned that the Leifeng Pagoda in the TV series "The Legend of the New White Lady" that I watched when I was a child was filmed at the Medicine Master Pagoda in the Jiming Temple. The TV series "The Legend of the New White Lady" was filmed in 1992, when the Leifeng Pagoda in Hangzhou's West Lake had not yet been built, so it was filmed in the newly built Yaoshi Pagoda, and the Yaoshi Pagoda became a household name.
