According to statistics, feed mills from more than 140 countries and more than 28,000 feed mills around the world will produce 1.2355 million tons of feed in 2021, an increase of 2.3% year-on-year, compared with 1.2079 million tons in 2020.
By region
The three regions with the highest production are still Asia Pacific, Europe and North America, with production of 458 million tons, 267 million tons and 253 million tons respectively, of which the Asia-Pacific region has the largest growth, up 5.7% year-on-year, not only because the world's top ten feed producers China, India and Japan are in the Asia-Pacific region, but also China and India are growing fast;
Second, Europe saw the largest decline of 1.2%, mainly due to factors such as non-plague, high raw material costs, low end-product prices, declining ruminant feed production and COVID-19.
By country
Feed production in the world's top ten producers totaled 799 million tonnes, up 4.4% year-on-year, and China remains the world's largest feed producer with 261 million tonnes and the biggest growth since 2020;
The U.S. remained in second place, with production of 232 million tons, up 2.1% year-on-year;
India saw the largest growth rate among the top ten producers, at 12.2%;
Turkey is newly ranked eighth among the top ten feed producers in the world;
Argentina was squeezed out of the global top ten.
By species
Due to the rapid recovery of the pig industry from the impact of non-plague, especially Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and China, its feed production has become the second largest breed of all livestock breeds after pet feed, with global pig feed production of 310 million tons in 2021, an increase of 6.6% year-on-year; but Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam and other countries continue to be seriously affected by non-plague, while Europe is mainly a pork surplus.
Global pet feed grew the fastest at 8.2%, followed by aquatic feed at 3.7%;
Feed production for layer chickens and beef cattle has declined year-on-year.
