On February 10, on the white "Snow Dragon" track of the Beijing Winter Olympics, a Chinese athlete stunned the audience as soon as he appeared, wearing a red "Dragon and Tiger Crown" helmet, he was like a tiger descending the mountain, driving a snowmobile at full speed, blowing a cool "Chinese wind". He is yin Zheng, a male steel frame snowmobile athlete, who set a track departure record in the first round of the Winter Olympics and finished fifth in the final.

"He's the most handsome in the whole game!" He left the audience with the most brilliant Chinese red, showing the confidence of our Chinese culture! Long after the game, Zhang Dongliang, the designer of the "Dragon and Tiger Crown" helmet and an outstanding alumnus of Guangdong University of Technology, is still excited. This helmet, which is like a tiger's eagle, is the third time that he has escorted and cheered for the mainland Olympic athletes.

Ingenious design allows athletes to "add wings to the tiger"

On the day of the competition, Zhang Dongliang was invited to return to Jiangmen Kaiping to watch the game with his fellow villagers, and the helmet of "Tiger Tiger Shengwei" brought a strong visual impact to the audience, and every time the camera was aimed at Yin Zheng, who was sliding at a high speed, the townspeople praised "good style" (good handsome).

Zhang Dongliang introduced to reporters that the helmet is inspired by the shape of the general armor in the opera, and the texture of the mountain armor in the armor surrounds the helmet, which is as solid as a rock, "Its pattern is also like a piece of stacked snowflakes, implying that in the Winter Olympic Games, the most different Chinese characteristics bloom." The dragon pattern in front of the helmet means that the athlete is like a flexible snow dragon galloping on the "Snow Dragon" track, and the dark tiger stripe on the top of the helmet echoes the ruyi pattern in the rear, which means "like a tiger adding wings".

The back of the helmet continues Zhang Dongliang's consistent design style, with ink designs with the athlete's own surname. In his view, helmets are not only protective equipment, but also the sustenance of athletes' sportsmanship. "Coinciding with the Year of the Tiger, I hope that athletes will be like tigers descending the mountain, moving forward courageously, unstoppable and tenacious."

It is reported that the maximum speed of the steel frame snowmobile can reach 135km/h, and the helmet must protect both athletes and ensure the speed of movement. "During a high-speed descent, athletes need to overcome resistance to reach higher speeds, so the aerodynamics of the helmet are crucial." Zhang Dongliang said that athletes need to undergo a lot of testing in the wind tunnel laboratory, use technology to obtain the optimal solution of ergonomics and aerodynamics, and he also pursues perfection when designing helmets.

Before each production, he will let the athletes send their helmets and accessories to be tailored, and this time is no exception. Because Yin Zheng was busy with training and competition abroad before, the production time was only about a week after communicating and determining the plan. In early January, after receiving Yin Zheng's helmet, Zhang Dongliang immediately worked overtime to make it uninterrupted, and delivered this "Dragon and Tiger Crown" with Chinese characteristics on time and with high quality in late January.

After Yin Zheng received the helmet, he directly called out "very domineering" and "beautiful and stunning", which also attracted the "real name envy" of his teammates. "It's too late for other athletes to design and make exclusive helmets, and I believe I will have many opportunities to help them win glory for their country in the future!" Zhang Dongliang said that athlete helmets are currently mostly foreign brands, and his team has professional advantages such as aerodynamics, ergonomics, material mechanics, etc., and is good at combining culture and competitive sports to create, and will focus on sports product design and research and development in the future, strive to achieve brand autonomy, improve the level of Manufacturing in Guangdong, and promote the vigorous development of the mainland sports industry.

Spread the "cool" Chinese culture

In fact, Zhang Dongliang's helmet is no longer the "debut" in the Olympic arena, and in 2016 he was given the opportunity to design helmets for mainland athletes. At that time, he worked during the day, studied helmet making in his spare time, and took 2 months to complete the "face helmet" of the later Yangwei Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

"We determined that the face was the main element, because Gong Ginger had participated in the London Olympics, so her helmet used the image of Mu Guiying, indicating that she would once again be in charge and go on a triumphant campaign." And Angel Zhong participated in the Olympic Games for the first time, so she chose the image of a young Mulan. Zhang Dongliang revealed that while the face helmet combines modern painting technology, it also uses a large number of traditional Chinese lacquer art, which also hides many of its own "careful thoughts": the height of the Xiangyun on both sides is 111mm, indicating the courage to compete for the first, and the Xiangyun dark pattern uses Olympic gold powder, which means to win the gold medal. After Gong Ginger and Angel Zhong won the women's team racing race in track cycling, the face helmet not only became famous in the industry, but was also included in the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland.

After that, he decided to start his own business and set up incolor studio. In recent years, its business has expanded from painting design to innovative design, and began to develop products independently. He introduced all kinds of talents to develop design, technology, new media sectors, continue to contribute to the development of the bicycle industry, and every year the China Bicycle International Exhibition can see incolor's small and fine innovative products.

At last year's Tokyo Olympics, zhang Dongliang's team designed helmets once again played a role for mainland athletes to win the women's team race on track cycling. This time, Zhong Angel and Bao Shanju wore the "MingFeng Helmet", "Zhong Angel was plagued by injuries and illness before the game, and was once in a sluggish state, I hope that the spirit of Phoenix Nirvana can inspire the angels to create glory again." Bao Shanju's helmet bears the marks of the White Horse Temple and Peony in her hometown of Luoyang, "'Moving the capital during the blossoming season' is my good wish to the athletes." ”

"Before the Beijing Winter Olympics, Yin Zheng told me through WeChat that he wanted to use some Peking Opera elements, and I wanted to use the tiger as the main element to jointly express the blessings of the Year of the Tiger. We hit it off, and in the end I fused the head of the general in Peking Opera with the tiger's eye to create a cool effect. Zhang Dongliang said that athletes from all over the world "compete for glory" in equipment, and he also hopes to show the world the beauty of Chinese culture, after experiencing the helmet design of the three Olympic Games, he is more and more confident, and will continue to work hard to spread the "cool" Chinese culture with the help of helmet design.

The university began to continue to delve into the combination of "cycling + design"

Zhang Dongliang's work can repeatedly "fire out of the circle" because he laid a solid design foundation and cultivated a hobby of cycling during his college years.

In 2006, he was admitted to the Department of Industrial Design (Digital Media Technology) of Guanggong. He loved painting, and he always scored high marks in drawing-related subjects, and also laid a good professional foundation for later becoming a designer. "In Guanggong, I learned the spirit of daring to think and dare to do, the courage to innovate, and exercised a strong problem-solving ability. Every time I participate in a bicycle race, I single-handedly contract the frame design and painting work to make my 'love of driving' unique in the team. ”

This powerful hands-on ability is also "grasped" from an early age, because his father is engaged in the industry of waste recycling, and the family's waste workshop is his source of toys, and he likes to find gadgets to make all kinds of toys. "At that time, I liked to delve into things, had interesting ideas about all kinds of new things, loved to do everything myself, and even now the floor of the studio is built by my own hands."

The joints of Zhang Dongliang's left middle finger and ring finger are slightly larger, which is the "brand" of his love of cycling. In his sophomore year, he joined the Guangzhou University United Team, which consisted of outstanding riders from various university bicycle associations in Guangzhou, and began to contact the strong bicycle culture. With his strong explosiveness, he became the sprinter of the team. "Once in a race, I was injured at the top of the mountain, two fingers were dislocated, I broke it on the spot, and I didn't see a doctor until I finished the race." This tenacity to not accept defeat made him bravely move forward in the cycling industry, not only won gold and silver many times, but also participated in the execution of the guangzhou Asian Games cycling track test match, and gradually formed a unique view of sportsmanship and sports.

How to better combine cycling hobbies and design majors is a topic he has been thinking about, and his graduation project has been "a small test". Combining his rich riding experience, he made a virtual tour project for a cycling club, and presented the ideal venue in his mind with expertise such as 3D modeling. "At that time, there were relatively few such clubs in China, and since I had an idea, I would do it. It is the continuous study of 'riding + design' that has led to a variety of helmets that have later "fire out of the circle". ”

"In the future, incolor will combine material mechanics and fluid mechanics to develop innovative products to achieve technical points that cannot be broken through by traditional processes." Zhang Dongliang said that he will implement the tradition of "practical school" of Guanggong daring to be the first and pragmatic and enterprising, and use the power of production, education and research to make the studio move to a bigger stage.

【Q&A】

1. What is your understanding of the spirit of Guanggong?

I sum up the spirit of Guanggong in my heart in a few words: respect, compatibility, balance and innovation. We must not only respect the past, but also maintain a reverence for the unknown; keep learning with a humble learning attitude; balance the advantages and disadvantages of all aspects with an exploratory mind; and break stereotypes and have the courage to innovate.

2. What do you have to say to your brothers and sisters? Any entrepreneurial advice?

Teachers, disciples, and sisters must do things in a down-to-earth manner so that their ideas can really land. I also hope that you can "live out what you think", find a suitable job, and find your own innovation path on the road of future development. If you want to start a business, I suggest that you can first precipitate in the enterprise, accumulate certain experience and funds, have a persistent attitude and perseverance, do not have too much dependence on the outside world, and seek survival points in the process of development.
