1. Stimulate children's interest in participating in sports

The biggest difference between orienteering and other forms of sports is that it puts forward certain task requirements for young children, and the process of children completing tasks is full of various suspense, which always attracts children's interest in participating in sports. Therefore, before each orienteering exercise, teachers must carefully design and make corresponding preparations, from the choice of environment to the arrangement of the number of people, to the production and placement of teaching tools, etc. need to be carefully considered and tried many times.

2. Improve children's long-term exercise ability

Kindergarten children have a competitive mentality, most children will try their best to complete the task of orienteering, especially in group competitions, young children can participate more actively. When we design orienteering content, in addition to giving young children the ability in sports, we also let young children always complete tasks in a competitive state. In the process of exercise, all the attention of young children is put into the activity, they are in a state of pleasure and excitement, not only to achieve the teacher's predetermined amount of exercise and exercise intensity, but also because of overcoming various obstacles and difficulties and finally reach the end point, so that children enhance their self-confidence, but also willing to challenge to higher goals.

3. Cultivate children's learning ability

One of the most important functions of orienteering is to develop young children's ability to read maps, which is very helpful for their future life and learning. When designing the map, according to the age characteristics of young children, the middle class is mainly to see simple routes, and the large class is relatively complex - mainly multi-route, and the map of each age stage also follows the principle of easy to difficult. Taking the map of kindergarten as an example, we have progressively designed two types of maps according to the development process of young children:

First, find the corresponding small animal;

Second, find the little animal that the teacher said on the map and connect a line by name;

With the accumulation of children's cognitive experience and ability, the number of animals on the map has increased from three to five, the task of orienteering has become more and more difficult, and the ability of young children to read maps is also constantly improving.

"Strong connection for parent-child activities

In today's society, more and more parents of families neglect to communicate with their children because they go to work and start a business, and they do not have time to cultivate their children's abilities in all aspects. Let children and parents "hold hands with small hands" and carry out parent-child treasure hunting activities in nature together, which can not only enable each other to promote mutual emotions in communication and exchange, enhance parent-child relationship (joint consultation and equal mutual assistance in parent-child orientation activities), but also help parents fully understand their children (in parent-child orientation, children's physical and mental conditions will be displayed one by one).

Participating in parent-child orienteering can not only improve children's intelligence, physical strength and ability to adapt to the environment, but also allow parents to relax the fatigue caused by work, and strengthen the physical fitness of parents.
