According to the news of Changying Group, on January 20, Zhang Puren, a veteran artist and director of Long Film and a translator and producer, died of illness at the age of 99. Zhang Puren is a native of Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, born in 1920. In 1947, he entered the Shanghai Kunlun Film Company, and in 1948, he joined the Cultural and Labor Troupe of North China University.

In 1949, the first translated film of New China, "Ordinary Soldier" (translated director Yuan Naichen), which was trial-translated by the Northeast Film Studio (later renamed Changchun Film Studio), was released in the whole Liberated Area, realizing that "the Soviets speak Chinese". Audiences can enjoy progressive films without having to go through slide subtitles, instruction manuals or live explanations from commentators, and the response is enthusiastic. After the success of the film, the Northeast Film Studio set up a translation and production team to recruit talents in Beijing, Jilin, Harbin and other places, and Zhang Puren, Xiang Junshu and other literary and artistic backbones of North China University also joined in September 1949 to engage in the start-up work of new Chinese translation and production.

In 1950, Zhang Puren served as the translation director of the Soviet feature film "Conquering Berlin", and his subsequent translations also included "The Wanderer (Part I and II)" (India), "National Hero Yulayev" (Soviet Union), "Cultivating Brave Spirit" (Soviet Union), "Taleman Biography (Part I)" (GDR), etc., participating in the creation of the first glory of new Chinese translation and production. The translation and production team of Dongying and Shangying (the latter was upgraded to Shanghai Film Translation Factory in 1957) also made a mark on the history of Chinese cinema as the founders of the genre of translation and production.

In addition to directing and translating films, Zhang Puren co-directed the feature film "Song of Mango" with Chang Yan in 1976 and the opera film "Three Dozen Tao Sanchun" in 1983.

Changying Group wrote in its obituary that Zhang Puren has a loyal personality, is kind to people, and has completed his life with a low-key and simple human realm. May the old artists go all the way!
