Before the game, Hornets new signing Harrell was interviewed by the media. Harrell said in an interview that he chose the no. 8 shirt. He said he considered six numbers and ended up choosing number 8 because Kobe's tragedy happened on Harrell's birthday, which is his way of paying tribute.

In the previous trade, Harrell was traded by the Wizards to the Hornets.
