On August 31, 2021, a coastal defense brigade of the Southern Theater Army received a letter of thanks from the veterans service station in Beihai Street, Jiyuan City, and Cheng Longyong's deeds of saving the drowning teenager "surfaced".
On August 12, when Cheng Long and his wife, who were on leave, were walking along the river, they suddenly heard an urgent cry for help: "Someone has fallen into the water!" Cheng Long followed the prestige, only to see that on the river not far away, a boy was struggling desperately with his limbs up and his head back.
Seeing this scene, Cheng Long did not have time to take off his clothes before he jumped into the water and struggled to swim towards the boy. It was the flood season, the water was turbulent, and the water level rose a lot. Cheng Long tried several times to push the boy's back and hips to move him to the shore, but failed. Seeing that the boy had difficulty breathing due to long-term drowning, Cheng Long plunged into the water and lifted the boy out of the water. In this way, he dived into the water 4 times in a row and finally managed to take the child ashore.
The teenager was somewhat confused due to drowning and excessive fright. Cheng Long used the first aid methods he learned in the army to rescue the boy, and the onlookers also helped to contact the boy's parents. After seeing that the child was not in serious trouble, the couple silently left the scene.
Cheng Long's deeds of saving people soon spread in the brigade, and his comrades-in-arms gave him a thumbs up. In the face of praise, Cheng Long said calmly: "As a soldier, I just did what I should do. ”

Comrade Cheng Long's heroic feat of saving children who fell into the water fully demonstrated the excellent skills of military personnel at key moments. This is not an accident, but an inevitability, Cheng Long's bloody courage and tenacious style stem from the tempering of the mission and tasks of the troops.
The time goes back to 2014, the super typhoon "Wei Ma Xun" landed in Hainan, for a time in Hainan Province, there were many emergencies, frequent dangers, and people's lives and property were greatly threatened. At that time, the officers and men of Cheng Long's unit were ordered to take the initiative to carry the vanguard banner of fighting against the wind and providing disaster relief, and formed a commando team to rush to the disaster area.
When Cheng Long and his comrades rushed to the Sanjiang Farm, it was pitch black all around, full of fallen trees, and the deepest part of the water reached his chest. Some of the masses were worried about the loss of property and were reluctant to leave, so Cheng Long and his comrades-in-arms went door to door and continued to do the ideological work of the villagers. After transferring more than 500 people to the farm resettlement site that night, knowing that many villagers had not eaten, Cheng Long and his comrades-in-arms endured hunger and took out all their compressed biscuits and mineral water to give to the villagers.
Late at night, Cheng Long found a pair of elderly people in a dangerous room whose roof had been scraped off, and the water in the house had soaked to his waist, and Cheng Long carried the old man to the resettlement site. Knowing that Grandpa had not eaten for nearly two days, Cheng Long ran to the village chief's house to boil hot water, cooked hot porridge and brought it to the old man, waited for the old man to drink slowly, turned around and threw himself into the rescue work.
After the anti-wind and disaster relief operation, Cheng Longrong was awarded the third class meritorious service.

In his third year as a soldier, he became a combat squad leader, proficient in practical battlefield skills such as sea boating and mobile cross-country, more than ten individual ability course training methods and a number of battlefield front-line rescue and treatment capabilities. In 2015, Cheng Long was awarded the third class merit again for his excellent military training achievements. In 2016, he was escorted to the former People's Liberation Army Army Officer College to study and grew into an officer.
In 2019, he was responsible for the professional training team of the coastal defense artillery of the theater army, and the squadron he led was rated as an advanced squadron; in 2020, he served as the commander of the recruit company, and was rated as "excellent cadre backbone of new training" by the southern theater army, and was rated as "four excellent officers" at the end of the year.
In October 2021, the brigade organized the "Qiongya Jianbing-2021" mass competition, in which hundreds of officers and soldiers from the organs and grass-roots frontlines competed fiercely. The content of the competition is divided into four consecutive operations, such as jack replacement front wheel, battlefield rescue, enemy engagement movement, and coordinated attack. For each competition project, he patiently analyzed, carefully studied, and personally tailored a training plan suitable for each comrade. In the competition, the performance of Cheng Long's team has steadily improved, and he has won the first place in the officer group.
