Wen 丨 Ten Mile Lotus Pond Autumn Water Long
In our lives, we often have a lot of time to lament that things are difficult and life is not easy, no matter what the background and development of this situation, my feeling is: if you have no choice, then you can only do your best to find a solution to the problem, rather than running away and avoiding.
Revisiting the movie "Test of the Will" in the past few days is even more inspiring, and there are many times in life when we face the moments of making decisions in the face of choices, and these crucial moments determine our future and even life and death. At such a critical juncture, the Savior we can rely on is no one else, only ourselves.
In the film, the Antarctic expedition was planned by the British Imperial Expedition Across the Antarctic, and the Endurance of 1914-1916 departed from London on 1 August 1914. The crew consisted of 28 people, and the expedition was based on trekking across the Antarctic continent. Of course, we can later know from the historical records and the reflections in the film that this expedition was still not successful in fact.

For the protagonist of the film, Sackton, the yearning for Antarctica is so passionate and persistent, so that in the face of opposition and ridicule from the whole country, he can still persist unremittingly, he constantly persuades, prepares, fights, the mystery of the unknown continent has always deeply attracted him to move towards his destination, for him, that is the meaning of life, he can even give up his original status and comfortable life to pursue, for ordinary people like us, what kind of trade-off is difficult to understand. The expedition was finally commissioned by the state, the trust of the British Empire to which he belonged, and the place of his personal professional interests, so he felt that he had an unshirkable responsibility, despite his wife's opposition, and set out on a mission, and he felt that he had a heavy responsibility.
Shortly after this expedition approached the South Pole, huge ice floes at sea surrounded the Enduring, making it difficult. Sackton had to sort out the ship's belongings, and the crew had to abandon the ship and move to the ice floes until 10 months later, when the ship sank to the bottom of the sea in November 1915.
At this time, Saxton had only one wish: to bring all the crew back to the place of departure one by one, after all, these were 28 living lives. Over the next 5 months, 28 of them boarded a major piece of ice floes that slowly grew smaller with the changing weather and the activities of so many people on it. By April 9, 1916, the ice floes had completely shattered, and three lifeboats from the Enduring were swiftly pushed to the surface by the desperate crew.

After seven days and nights of danger at sea, they landed on the deserted Elephant Island. Instead of sitting still, Sackton and five others crossed about 800 miles in the largest lifeboat to South Georgia, an epic sea of ice that lasted 16 days in the extremely harsh seas. Once ashore, Sackton and the crew trekked through the Georgian Mountains in Vietnam in search of whaling stations for assistance. It wasn't until 3 p.m. on May 20, 1916, that Sackton struggled to reach a whaling station, met whalers from Norway, and 3 days later they boarded a whaling boat and began rescuing the remaining partners trapped on Elephant Island. On August 30th, after the 4th quiz, he finally found a way to cross the ice floes and was finally able to reunite with all his remaining 22 companions on Elephant Island. After so much impossible, all were saved.
Of course, in order to highlight the complexity of human nature and cater to the worldly audience, the film even adds some commonplace vulgar bridges, so that before the imminent expedition, Sackton saw him and another woman when his wife Emily came to him, but Mrs. Winter hugged closely, and when she did not get the news of whether Sackton was alive for a long time, the woman also called Sackton's wife for confirmation, just to get a message that he was safe. We can completely ignore this, and sometimes the multifaceted design of movies to highlight human nature is not necessarily how appropriate it is.
Today we're going to explore the workplace lessons we can learn about execution, leadership, and management skills presented in the movie "Test of the Will."
For workers, the core points of the workplace that we can get from this film are the following:
1. If you have no choice, you have to do your best
In the film, Sackton in the discovery of the Antarctic "Enduring" ship has been trapped in the ice siege, if you continue to stay there, you can only sit still, as the core of the entire team, it is indispensable to find a way to adjust the whole situation, and every step later we can see Sackton's persistence and dedication, his purpose is only one: to do everything possible to bring the 28-person team back to the motherland safely. Even in the face of the crew's incomprehension and confrontation, he insisted on his own approach and let out the words that if someone dared to disobey the order and cause the team's distress coefficient to increase, he could kill someone who did not obey the order and went with everyone when necessary.
2. Since you are in this position, you are responsible for the mission
Sackton is a man worthy of learning and respect from all of us, for his sense of purpose and respect for life. Sackton, exhausted and badly injured after his crew roared and explained, walked slowly to the side alone and secretly injured himself, and the captain came over and comforted him and said that he would do his best, don't be too hard for yourself.
Sackton said that I am in this position, I have to be responsible for the top and the bottom, the sense of mission makes me find a way to return safely, respect for life makes me have to be responsible for them, I have an unshirkable responsibility. This sense of mission in Sackton is something that every one of us in the workplace should learn from and emulate, which is true professionalism.
3. We may be panicking ourselves, but the team must have a core person
After all, Sackton and the crew are 28 people, and each person's work content, academic background, and identity ideas are different, so it is normal for everyone to solve the dilemma and disagree. Sackton is not necessarily not afraid at all, after all, this dilemma seems that there is no one to rely on, only to save themselves, so the whole team must have a core person, there can only be one voice, everyone runs wholeheartedly to the same is to form a joint force, and finally be able to save themselves successfully.
What especially touched me in the film was that in the face of the choice between life and death, in the face of the naked test of hunger and cold, Sackton was still able to not abandon the faith in his heart, not to give up every member of the team who followed, even if he struggled to survive.
4. In the face of difficulties, we must take responsibility for our own choices and have a spirit of sacrifice
Can't forget that all the members followed Sackton's instructions all the way, facing some people who had no food to go out hunting, some people to cook and share meals, Sackton worried that if he did not do anything wrong, he would cause a crisis of group distrust, and every time he divided the food, he would let people blindfold himself and distribute it. Even so, during the evening break, there was speculation as to whether there was a verbal code between the person who divided the food and Saxton to distinguish the size of the food.
The crew who escaped from the "Enduring" ship had to hurry every day, carrying three life-saving dinghies, making sure to keep the whole sea so that they could travel in full force, but the hard work of carrying the dinghies on the ice finally made some people collapse and began to curse loudly and refuse to obey orders. Since he knew that he was going to die here, why did he have to die of exhaustion. Sackton didn't overthink him, but stressed that as long as you obey the order, I will be responsible for your life.
Contrary to these selfish people, there was an old crew member resting quietly, bulging a large bag in his arms, and was questioned whether you were hiding something to eat? When I opened it, I found that it was the cold feet of another crew member who had lost consciousness... In the face of difficulties, we should actually form a joint force, be responsible for our own choices, and have a spirit of sacrifice, only in this way can we get a peaceful result faster.

5. It may be difficult, but when it's time to apologize, be sure to truly recognize your mistakes
When Sackton sent someone back to the original "Enduring" to get some necessary living supplies, the team member in charge of photography disobeyed his order, soaked in clothes, tried his best to bring out the original photograph, and told Sackton that this was the future information, even if we died, others would know what we had done. Of course, this is also a dedicated attitude that is loyal to their duties. Sackton thought about it and replied that you were right, and that these pictures were thank you for bringing them out, otherwise even if we survived, we would not be able to say what we had done, and these photos were proof of us.
The same is true in the workplace, maybe we have a time to make mistakes, but it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter, sincerely apologize, recognize their mistakes and be able to put themselves in the other person's role to think, itself is a recognition and affirmation, so apologies are also an important means of maintaining interpersonal relationships in the workplace to some extent, provided that they are sincere.
Well, I recommend that you must check out this "Test of the Will" movie, maybe the first half of you will feel that it is not a bit lengthy, but once their journey to explore the Antarctic begins, I believe you will put yourself in the shoes of empathy, this movie is a good textbook theme that teaches us how to complete the mission in the team, and it is a movie masterpiece that everyone in the workplace should see.
