Traditional techniques of cross-country skiing include alternating skiing, double-pole push-and-hold, figure-eight stepping without the skiing phase, downhill and cornering techniques. It is not allowed to have two feet or one foot of ice pedaling action, the snowboard must be placed in the pressed snow trough, the two skis are kept parallel to the sliding direction, the use of the back and forth swing of the legs and the snow fight to move forward, the athlete strides forward and moves similarly, but when skiing, the snow fight generates thrust, and each stride will slide a distance. A total of 99 athletes competed in the event, with each two athletes departing sequentially at 30 seconds apart. After a fierce competition, Finland's Ivo Niskanen won the championship in 37:54.8, 23.2 seconds faster than the second-place Russian Olympic Committee team Alexander Bolisshunov. Norway's Johannes Hesfroot Klebeau finished third. In the previous men's doubles event, Ivo Iskanen won the bronze medal, in the women's 10 km (traditional technology) event, his sister Kelto Niskanen was runner-up, this time Ivo finally reached the top podium, and the Niskanen family collected gold, silver and bronze medals at the Beijing Winter Olympics.
