At the 2018 Winter Olympics, Chinese women's figure skater Karen Chen performed poorly, finishing only 11th. She was disappointed with the result and soon decided to start all over again.

Quoted by NBC, Chen Kaiwen said at a recent news conference: "When I left the ice rink, I remember saying to myself, 'You have to work hard for another 4 years, this is not what you dream of being'. ”

But after a season, the injury affected her and she only played a small game, which made her less confident.

She was later accepted to Cornell University, which meant that not only did she train away from the coaching staff, but the time was also compressed.

Taking into account both academics and figure skating has made Chen Kaiwen's performance in the 2019-20 season ups and downs, very unstable. This situation made her rethink and eventually made the decision to go all out for the Beijing Winter Olympics.

So, after a year, she temporarily shelved her cornell studies and moved back to Colorado Springs. But regardless of the outcome of the Beijing Winter Olympics, Ms. Chen said she was ready to return to Cornell in the fall semester of 2022 to continue her studies.

At the 2021 Figure Skating World Championships, Chen Kaiwen unexpectedly won the fourth place. Her achievement was key to the U.S. team still finishing third in the team after a mistake by national champion Bradie Tennell. In 2017, Chen Kaiwen had the same unexpected performance, coincidentally, the then national champion Ashley Wagner also made mistakes.

Both pre-Olympic World Championships put additional pressure on them, as the outcome will determine the number of participants in the Winter Olympics.

Chen Kaiwen, 22, won a national championship in 2017 and won a bronze medal in three national competitions.

Chen Kaiwen is known for her high-speed rotational movements. Her skating career began at the age of 6, and she and her favorite skater, Kristi Yamaguchi, are both from Fremont, California.

In addition to Chen Kaiwen, the U.S. figure skating women's team includes Mariah Bell and another Chinese skater, Alysa Liu. They will challenge the Russian women's team that has dominated the program in recent years. (End)
