Before his ordination, Master Hongyi, a senior monk of the Republic of China, was a famous musician, art educator, calligrapher, theater activist, and pioneer of Chinese drama. After he gave up everything and became a monk, he was indifferent to fame and fortune, traveled in all directions, and devoted his life to studying, sorting out, and reviving the Nanshan Vinaya.

Throughout his life, Master Hongyi spared blessings and practiced hard work, and his vows were very strict, he only ate two meals a day, and he did not eat at noon, and he did not have three pieces of clothing, even if someone sent good clothes or precious things, he also gave most of them to others.

In the early autumn of 1925, Master Hongyi was stranded in the Seven Pagoda Temple in Ningbo due to war. One day, his young friend Xia Qizun heard the news and came to visit. Master Hongyi left him to eat together, and the Chinese food was simple, with only a plate of pickles on the table. Master Hongyi picked up the dish with chopsticks and ate it so carefully that there was not even a single piece of white rice left in the bowl.

Seeing that his life was so miserable, Xia Qizun was very sad: "Isn't this pickle not salty?" ”

"Salty has a salty taste." Master Koichi replied.

After the meal, Master Koichi poured a glass of boiled water to drink. Xia Qizun asked him again, "Is there no tea here?" How do you drink boiled water? Master Hongyi smiled and said, "It's good to have water to drink!" Although the boiling water is light, it also has a light taste. ”

Another time, when Master Hongyi went out on a cloud tour and went to a monastery to hang up orders, he was rejected by the Zhike Master because he had no long belongings, but he was not angry or complained, and then left without a problem.

Later, when the abbot learned of this, he quickly sent people to catch up, and beat the bell and drum to welcome Master Hongyi back, and in this regard, Master Hongyi was only humble and indifferent.

It can be seen that "peace with the encounter" is a peaceful attitude towards life, and it is also a good recipe for optimistic treatment. In the eyes of Master Hongyi, whether it is salty, light, respectful or contemptuous, everything is no different. In the face of any kind of life situation, accept it all, and there will be no sense of discrimination.

In the face of honor and disgrace, we should also learn to be quiet in motion and know how not to be alarmed. No matter what the taste of fate is, the smartest way is to accept the arrangement first, salty and light, face it with a peaceful heart, and taste it with a grateful heart.
