Joe Gomez has played just 15 minutes since Leicester last travelled to Anfield on 22 December, and repeated setbacks have cost him luck and game time.
The 24-year-old has made 12 appearances this season after a serious knee injury, but only four are part of the starting line-up.
His position after Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konat is evident, and his lack of luck further limits the playing time.
The FA Cup match against Cardiff was seen as an ideal opportunity for Gomez to perform himself, but instead, Covid's diagnosis took him out of the game.
Jurgen Klopp admits that Lucky is not on Gomez's side, but recent history suggests his time may be just around the corner – he just needs to be prepared.
"It's really unlucky for Joey. When Joey played for us, he played at an incredibly high level – certainly one of the best centre-backs in England," Klopp said.
"But then the big injuries came, the minor ones came, and the new crown is coming now when it's very bad - otherwise he - will definitely play Cardiff."
'That's going to help get some rhythm, get some momentum, but he can't play because of Covid.
"It's tough. The only thing I can say is that at Liverpool there are tougher things than being a team player. ”
