Introduction: The Far West Strange Instrument Illustrated Commentary is interpreted by the German Jesuit Johann Terrenz and translated by Wang Zheng, a late Ming dynasty scholar. This book is the first work to introduce Western mechanical knowledge to China, and is known as the first mechanical engineering work in China. This book consists of four volumes (3 volumes of Qiqi Tushu Shu Shu Shu Shu In the "Far West Strange Instrument Illustrations", many mechanical engineering terms were newly coined by Wang Zheng when translating and used by later generations, such as "center of gravity", "lever", and "gear", which shows the importance of this book. As for the illustrations, what is special about the book is that the works of the Italian engineers Agostino Ramelli and Vittorio Zonca, as well as the French engineer Jacques Besson, are reproduced in this translation. Although painted in the Chinese style, the illustrations depicting European machinery are quite accurate.
